Lexicon
I would like to work on an abstract film which explores the ideas of ancient language, forgotten cultures and
forbidden knowledge. I focus on symbols and occultist rites and rituals, I want to take my audience on a journey
through the evil and malignant side of juan expression and beliefs. I have an idea to create my own language or
code which ill be used throughout the film and accompanying book, which will take the form of an old tome.
starting points for ideas into the macabre:
Necronomicon - Lovecraft
Tales of Mystery and Imagination - Poe
The collected works of Algernon Blackwood.
An idea for a sort of synopsis:
Dark runes skitter across an ancient. dusty tome. Bound in the skin of anguished sacrifices innumerable. Their souls
chant like whispers scattered across from unearthly crypts. The grim codex awaits in the depths, boiling in the
stagnant fumes of a thousand hells, it watches, sealed within, it waitswith shadowy intent, for new interpretations.
How does your research relate to your project/what is the academic/theoretical framework for your work?
My research will relate to my project through my study of abstract film techniques and their role in the modern film
industry. I also want to look at the use of film in today's creative practice and research it's decline in recent years due
to digital becoming a viable medium.
Outline of how your proposals develops your Level 6 Learning and identify areas of further development
you would like to pursue at Level 7.
I want to develop my skills in film manipulation and editing techniques, take it a step further than I did at level 6. I
have many ideas for how I can play with 16mm film in this way and plan to explore these to the fullest extent.
