This device is designed to absorb high frequency voltage surges (“spikes”) on three phase supplies up to 480
VAC. The Eurotherm Drives Inc. part number is LA048357.

The device functions by conducting any voltage spikes which rise above the AC peak to peak voltage into the
capacitor. The diode bridge prevents the spike charge from returning to the AC line and the 10K resistor
bleeds the charge off. The 1 ohm resistor limits the inrush current on power up. Because the electric charge
from the spikes can be thought of as “filling” the capacitor while the 10K resistor “drains” it, the device is
often called a “Bucket Suppressor”.
