Obesity is an issue of people with too much body fat that causes people to become so
unhealthily over-weight that they cant do a lot of things themselves. It affects 1:3
adults and 1:6 children in the United States.

Obesity means too much body fat

Which is different then being overweight

The weight may come from muscle, bone, fat,


and/or body water.

Statistics

In America, about1:3 adults are overweight


and 1:6 children are overweight.

The percent of obese people in each state


ranges from between 20% to 40%. For
example: In California 25% of people are
obese.

Main Cause

Obesity is an excess amount of body fat.

The most common measure of obesity is


the body mass index (BMI).

A person is considered overweight if their


BMI is between 25 and 29.9. A person is
considered obese is their BMI is 30 or
above.

Blood ow

Cardiac performance

Type 2 diabetes

Heart disease

High blood pressure

The Problem Is Getting
Worse

people in the world. This number of people
goes up about every minute.

Turning off the TV

Going outside

Preparing nutritious meals for the whole

Why Should We Care?

Everyone should care about obesity,


especially childhood obesity.

Childhood obesity is important to keep an


eye on because if we let the rates of
childhood obesity keep going up then this
generation will be the rst generation for
most of the childeren to die before their
parents.
