Character analysis of the

extraordinary character from the

Impossible Knife of Memory
In the Impossible Knife of Memory, when the readers
meet Finn, we get to find out that Hayley Kincain has not
just blue hair, but ELECTRIC blue hair. Finn even
addresses Hayley as Miss Blue throughout the novel,
Nice hair by the way. Is electric blue your natural color?
(Halse Anderson 6). I personally think that the blue hair
one is thing of many that makes Hayley stand out as an
individual.
Hayley Kincain is obviously a female, and shes pretty
young as well. I think Hayley gets along by herself okay
not only because she's tough as nails, but also because
she seems to be really tall and that can be pretty
intimidating. Hayley acknowledges the language of her
body when walking down the street of her not so safe
town, The guys would size me up us female, young, five
foot-elevenish, one-sixty. Those facts were the language
of my body (Halse Anderson 6).
When reading the book, you dont exactly have to be
rocket scientist to figure out that Hayley Kincain is an
outcast not only because of her tough life, but also
because she is a little strange. Hayley is also pretty
intelligent too, she just chooses not to use her brain in
school, Youre both tall, youre both quiet, youre both
strangely smart, and even a little weird. No offense
(Halse Anderson 17). Being quiet, smart, and weird is
what makes Hayley so compatible with Finn, because
they have that in common.
You would think Hayley Kincain wouldnt be so
judgmental of people because she understands people a
lot of times can have a story behind there personality,
yet, she classifies people into two groups, the zombies
and the freaks. Hayley tells how you are either or and are
never excluded from the classification, There are two
kinds of people in this world: 1. zombies 2. freaks. Only
two. Anyone who tell you different is lying ( Halse
Anderson 3) .
Hayley doesnt always follow the rules in life, especially in
school. Scratch that, Hayley doesnt follow the rules at
all. Hayley is constantly getting detentions for being
disrespectful to the faculty and students are her school
and refusing to do her work. The only thing that makes
Hayley care about the trouble is when the school tries to
get her father involved. Hayley even is forced to write she
will not be disrespectful anymore in detention, The
zombie rulers were forcing me to write, I will not be
disrespectful to Mr. Diaz five hundred times (Halse
Anderson 1)
