400 m

The Figure shows the path of a boy walking from his house to a Playground. If he takes 10 minutes to
reach the playground, calculate :-
(a) The distance travelled by the boy to reach
the Playground, (1m)
(b) The displacement of the boy from his
house, (1m)
(c) The speed of the boy, (1.5m)
(d) The velocity of the boy. (1.5m)

Example 2:

A stationary car takes 8 seconds to reach a uniform velocity of 20 ms
-1
. As it moves nearer to a set of
traffic lights, it takes 4 seconds to come to a complete stop. Calculate :-

(a) The acceleration of the car for the first 8 seconds,
(b) The deceleration of the car as it moves nearer to the traffic lights.

EXAMPLE 3:

A boy is Roller Skating along a straight path after giving himself a good push.
His Velocity decreases from 5.0 ms
-1
to 3.0 ms
-1
as he moves through a distance of 16.0 m.
What is his deceleration, in ms
-2
.
