Youre what you eat, stay fit!
Unit Summary
This unit plan is focused to get the kids learn the importance of having good eating habits, also that each one of us
needs physical exercise in order to have our body in shape. Students will develop different activities to acquire the
content of the unit such as: brainstorming, group discussions, oral presentations, and as a final product a
demonstration class. Each one of the activities will be evaluated through check lists and rubric as part of the
evidence of the execution of the project.

Summary of Evaluations
Using the brainstorming technique I will evaluate the spontaneously list of ideas that students will share
with their classmates and at the same time it helps to develop the topic of the unit plan.
Sharing and discussing ideas allows students to be aware of the others thinking also promotes their
critical thinking and the stating of their points of view.
Through the oral presentation give the students the confidence in showing their progress to their
classmates.
The demonstration class will help the students to apply the knowledge they have previous acquire also
show it to others.
The use of Tics also helps in the development of the contents in this unit, and promotes the use of
technological tools.
Rubrics and check lists are going to be used to evaluate the activities in it will have the criteria for each
activity.

Procedures
Activity 1
Guide Question: What do you prefer eating out or eating at home?
Partial product: Cognitive map
Our body needs a good nutrition in order to have a well state function. Now lets watch a video about it.
1. Participate in the warm up: follow commands.
2. Click on the following link and watch the video individually about the importance of eating healthy food

3. Through the brainstorming technique in groups of four students each; analyze, share and discuss your point of
view about what you have watched on the video. Take into consideration the following roles inside the groups:
Manager of the group (in charge of keep the group on task and take the time),encourager(make sure everyone
participates), writer (record the results and make sure everybody is agreed), presenter (present the product)
4. In the same groups and considering the roles, prepare a cognitive map in which you identify healthy products,
using the technological tool Power Point.
5. Once you have your cognitive map about healthy products completed on Power Point, the presenter of each
group will explain the partial product for the rest of the class.
6. Assign a fruit for each group.

Activity 2
Guide Question: Do you know the nutritional facts that it is in a fruit salad?

Healthy eating is an important part of looking after your health. Fruits are really important to maintain a
balanced diet so, include 2 serves of fruit every day. Also choose the seasonal fruits because it will be fresher
and cheaper.
1. Stand up and read the tongue twister from the presentation: I scream, you scream, we all scream, for
an ice-cream
2. Before we start mixing the fruits, lets talk a little bit, using the same groups and roles, the manager of
each group is going to say to the rest of the class at least one nutritional fact about their fruit, the
presenter will say the color of the fruit, and the writer will say why is important to include that fruit on
our diet.
3. Now its time to mix all the fruits together, the encourager will cut the fruits and put it on the bowl then
the manager is going to serve the fruit salad.
4. It was yummy, wasnt it? Finally, its time to clean the whole group should clean their work station; the
writer will watch out the group and make sure that everybody worked.

Activity 3

Final product: Working out around the school through Zumba dancing
Our bodies were meant to move. Regular exercise is necessary for physical fitness and good health. It reduces
the risk of heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes and other diseases. It can improve your
appearance and delay the aging process.
1. Move on guys! Listening to the music move around the classroom and find a partner.
2. Watch the video and follow the choreography in order to practice the steps in the following link:

3. Choose the 5
th
grade to present the choreography and invite them to move on.
4. Then do the same with the rest of the groups of the school.
5. Now, work out around the school through Zumba dancing, take pictures and videos of the activity.
6. Prepare a picture collage with the software Autocollage and uploaded to the teachers weebly.
7. Finally, in the same groups apply the PNI technique and make your feedback about the activity, once you
have it finished the presenter will show it to the class on a power point presentation.

Curricula adaptations
Students with special
needs
In case of having a student or students with special needs, the teacher should ask
for special activities in the specific contents in order to promote the significant
knowledge on the student. The specialist will give you the necessary orientations to
work with the student attending to his/her necessity.
Non Spanish-
speaking student
In case of having a student who does not speak Spanish, the teacher must
adequate the contents to the target language and include activities that promote
the communication in the foreign language. Another option is that the teacher apply
TPR Approach with that specific student.
Talented student
In case of having a talented student the teacher can explore different ways to take
advantage of that talent. In first place the teacher can assign extra work before
he/she finish his/her primary activity. In second place the teacher can take that
student as a tutor for a classmate.
