BREAST CANCER

Cancer is one of the most deadly diseases in the world many people have died because
of that. In the United States about 10,000 people died because of it every week, and another
3,000 hear the sentence You have Cancer". The United States has spent about 27 billion
dollars to determine the causes of cancer and to find effective cures; incidence rate for all
cancer has gone up over 18% among men and 12% among women. The incidence of breast
cancer has risen by 30% due to early detection but this has not resulted in better survival rate.
The risk factors for breast cancer include old age, certain inherited genetic alteration,
hormone therapy and being obese. A woman risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer is
greatly increased if she inherits a harmful BRCA1 or BRCA2. BRCA1 and BRCA2 are human
genes that belong to a class of genes known as tumor suppressors, men with these mutation
also have an increased risk of breast cancer. Both men and women who has this harmful
mutation BRCA1 and BRCA2 may be at risk of other cancers.
Generally breast cancer is not painful and woman does not feel unwell with them. A
change in the skin may occur there is often dimpling or indentation with the formation of wrinkles
the nipple might be pulled in or there may be a discharge from the nipple. The breast might
swell and become like the skin of an orange in some breast cancers this is due to a blockage of
the drainage of fluid from the breast. Patients sometimes present with a lump under the arm,
which is a sign that the cancer has spread to the lymph glands.
The treatment of cancer depends on the tumor type and the stage of the disease how far
it has spread to involve either lymph glands or other organs on the body. Breast cancer is
classified in three groups: Early or operable breast cancer, this has spread in the lymph glands.
Locally advanced breast cancer this has not apparently spread beyond the breast but involves
lymph glands and it also involves the skin. Advanced breast cancer this is where the disease
not only has spread to the lymph glands and the skin it also has affected other organs.
In conclusion, the best way to prevent breast cancer is to check yourself before it is too
late, there are a lot of surgeries for breast cancer but it depends how advanced is the disease.
One of the treatments that they offer for the cure of breast cancer is radiotherapy, which kills
cells that are growing, and has greater effect on cancer than surrounding tissues. After a few
days that the patient has taken radiotherapy the skin may look red and feel a bit sore, rather
they have spent too long in the sun
