Peter Lynch

BIOGRAPHY
Peter Lynch was born on January 19, 1944 in Newton. After his father died, he took the small
job of a Golf Caddy at Brae Burn at a young age. It helped him to meet people who had a good
knowledge of stocks and investments. Because he was a good learner and he acquired a good
knowledge, he gradually started his research and finally invested in a company called Flying Tiger. In
addition, his caddying earned him a financial aid scholarship which helped him to graduate from Boston
College in 1965 with a degree in Finance. In 1966, he was provided an opportunity to intern in Magellan
Fidelity (DeGrace, 2011). As an intern, he worked as an analyst in the paper, chemical, and publishing
industries of Fidelity. From 1967 to 1968 he joined the military to serve his country (Peter Lynch
Resource Page, n.d). In 1968, he further earned a Masters degree in Business Administration from
Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (DeGrace, 2011). In 1969, he was hired permanently
at Fidelity Magellan and was assigned as a head of their textiles, mining, metals and chemicals
investment sector (Peter Lynch Resource Page, n.d). He began earning $16,000 per annum at the age of
25. In 1974, Lynch was made the Research Director of the Fidelity and in 1977, he was appointed as
portfolio manager. In 1990, Peter Lynch retired as Magellan Funds Manager and began participating in
humanitarian activities (DeGrace, 2011). He is the founder of the Lynch Foundation which supports
research in education, religious organizations, hospitals and medicine, and various cultural and historical
organizations (Peter Lynch Resource Page, n.d). In 2007, Lynch was assigned as the Vice-Chairman of
Fidelitys investment Adviser Fidelity Management & Research Co. He is now the Research Consultant
at Fidelity (DeGrace, 2011).
