Please consider this letter as a reference fbr Ms. Andrea Cove* to be used in her teaching portfolio. I was Ms. Cove's university facilitator during her IPT (Introductory Professional Term) field experience for the [Jniversity of Alherta at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School (Edmonton, Alberta) in junior high classes from March 18 to April 26, 2013. During that time I conducted cohort meetings for each of the five weeks at which Ms. Cave energetically contributed and conscientiously attended. I also observed her teaching a total of three lessons in grade 7 Language Arts and grade I Social Studies. Throughout her student teaching experience Ms. Cove conducted herself professionally, being ionsistently prmctual, organized, considerate, and polite. She creatively planned and executed many motivating sequential lessons, while considering the range of abilities within those classes. Using exceptional technological resources to motivate and define concepts, Ms. Cove incorporated many other teaching skills and strategies as she adapted her leisons according to the students' understanding. Formative and summative assessment were consistently used as tools, in managing and directing her lessons' objectives that were aligned with the Frogram of Studies specific Iearner expectations for eaih grade level she taught. Ms. Cove was extrernely flexible in applying visual, auditory, and tactile styles within her lessons in order achieve success for all &e students, with speciat efforts at including her specialist expertise in anthropology Communication with me, other staff nnernbers and student teachers, pments, and her mentor teacher was enthusiastic and positive. She provided a comfortable and safe rapport with all the students and quickly established a positive and productive work ethic wittin the classroom environment. Ms. Cove's management style and classroom climate was one in which the needs of the students were considered, as her lessons often required flexibility and further refinement wiltr timing and content. With considerable reflection. Ms. Cove was willing to adjust her lessons by incorporating her mentor teacher's suggestions and aclvice. Making a conscious eff"ort at self-evaluation, Ms. Cove consistently tried to improve her methods of engagement with appropriate motivational activities and monitoring throgghout her lessons. The students responded positively to her kind, affinnative" no' nonsense, and helpfiil manner. Ms. Cove was an encouraging role model for her class- I hope that you would seriously oonsider Ms. Cove for a teaching position, since she was a wiiling participant in all the school activities during this practicum and would be a positive addition to any teaching staff.
