Statistics is a type of science used to collect, analyze and to make inference. It is not just used in mathematics, but also used very often in research. Researchers used statistics to organize, analyze, and summarize data. The point of statistical data is to be able to communicate research findings and to also support hypothesis. It also gives credibility to methodology and for conclusions. The evidence provided shows an example of how to use a hyothesis and to evaluate the strength of it. The inquiry is based on a survey and the point of it was to collect data for statistical analysis. The aim was to survey about a 100 men of different ages to see how attractive they find a female with red lipstick vs. a woman with no lipstick at all. The purpose of this is to see if the red lipstick impacts the level of attraction, or rather how much attention a woman can grab with red lipstick. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder we have all heard of this saying numerous times. However, what captures the attention of the beholder? Makeup is meant to accentuate the beauty of a woman. It can range from natural looks to a smoky sultry look. However, does the amount of makeup attract more men or less? All participants who took the survey were male (100%). Heterosexual males (93%) were the majority of the participants, with only 7% that were not heterosexual. Most of the participants were single (82%) and the rest were in a relationship (18%). None of the males were married. The majority of the males were from the age category of 18-25 (89%), with only 10% of the males being from the age category of 25-30, none from the 30-40 age category, and only 1 percent from the 40+ age group. For both the no lipstick as well as the lipstick surveys, eyes was the majority choice answer the participants chose in reference to what the noticed the most in a womans face (82%). 8% of the participants chose lips, 1% - eyebrows, 7% - cheeks and 2% did not select an answer. In reference to whether they liked it when a woman wears lipstick, 55% chose yes, 41% chose no, and 4% wrote sometimes on the side. In reference to which color attracts the participant the most, 15%-pinks, 43%-reds, 34%-nudes, 0%-browns and 8%-no answer. When asked to rate primary investigators attraction from 1-10 (without red lipstick), majority chose 6 (22%) and 7 (28%). The responses ranged from 1 to 10. When asked to rate primary investigators attraction from 1-10 (with red lipstick), majority chose 7 (24%) and 10 (18%). The responses ranged from 5-10. Using the statistical results as a guide, results show for both question 7 as well as question 9 that the numbers are lower than 5.991 (critical value). This means that wearing the red lipstick had not much impact on how the males completed the survey. On question 7, the 2 was 0.25 when the primary investigator wore red lipstick and 0.23 while not wearing any lipstick. Even though it shows that the answers were slightly affected, the numbers are still too small and much lower than 5.991 to make any difference. On question 10, 2 was 1.19 on both times (when wearing the red lipstick as well as when not wearing any lipstick). Not only is it much lower than 5.991 hence not making any difference, the numbers were the same meaning it did not have quite an effect on how the males rated the investigator. The hypothesis was not supported. The null hypothesis is accepted: there is no difference between the observed and expected frequencies. The overall conclusion that can be drawn from this survey study is that red lipstick does not make an impact on male attraction toward females. The null hypothesis: there is no significant difference between the observed and expected frequencies has been accepted. Based on scientific reasoning, the explanation is appopriate. Statistical data was used to evaluate and reach a conclusion in this inquiry. Using statistics, this explanation follows scientific reasoning and provides a reliable conclusion. The inquiry paper in the evidence section provides a detailed explanation and results over the statistical analysis which was conducted through a Chi Square Distribution. .
