Course Objectives/Learner Outcomes

Competency 001: The principal knows how to shape campus culture by facilitating
the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of
learning that is shared and supported by the school community.

I hosted Science Fair Parent Night which presented the opportunity for parents to
witness the hard work of the students who participated in the science fair. I also
developed a strong relationship with schools in our feeder by developing a
mentorship program so their students will know what we expect from them when
they get to our school.
Competency 002: The principal knows how to communicate and collaborate with all
members of the school community, respond to diverse interests and needs, and
mobilize resources to promote student success.

I had the pleasure of facilitating Professional Learning Community meeting in
which staff members collaborate to evaluate instructional practices and student
learning.
Competency 003: The principal knows how to act with integrity, fairness, and in an
ethical and legal manner.

I was chosen to judge science fair projects. I had to remain objective and fair in the
judging of the projects to maintain the integrity of the completion. I also
represented administration at several events across the district.
Competency 004: The principal knows how to facilitate the design and
implementation of curricula and strategic plans that enhance teaching and
learning; ensure alignment of curriculum, instruction, resources, and assessment;
and promote the use of varied assessments to measure student performance.

During my internship I was charged with improving the ISS program. I was able to
ensure that learning continued to take place effectively, and lighten the burden of
teachers and ISS monitors.
Competency 005: The principal knows how to advocate, nurture, and sustain an
instructional program and a campus culture that are conducive to student learning
and staff professional growth.

I helped develop a series of tutorials for the students who still fall under the TAKS
system and had not yet passed all sections. Many teachers from math and science
galvanized to assist these students, and many of them were able to pass their
remaining exams within the deadline to attend graduation.
Competency 006: The principal knows how to implement a staff evaluation and
development system to improve the performance of all staff members, select and
implement appropriate models for supervision and staff development, and apply the
legal requirements for personnel management.

I was chosen to mentor a teacher new to the campus. Through several classroom
observations, I was able to provide feedback on instructional practices, informal
assessment methods, and how to increase student engagement.
Competency 007: The principal knows how to apply organizational, decision-
making, and problem-solving skills to ensure an effective learning environment.

I participated in several ARD meetings in which we collaborated to assess the needs
of students in the special education program. I also planned the freshman
orientation in which incoming freshman became acclimated to policies and
procedures of the campus.
Competency 008: The principal knows how to apply principles of effective leadership
and management in relation to campus budgeting, personnel, resource utilization,
financial management, and technology use.

I assisted the seniors with the planning of the items in their senior package,
budgeted for their senior events, and organized chaperones to attend the events
with them. I also assisted the science department chair with the budget for the
department.
Competency 009: The principal knows how to apply principles of leadership and
management to the campus physical plant and support systems to ensure a safe
and effective learning environment.

I assisted the assistant principal responsible for safe and secure schools with
evaluating inclement weather safety plans, and scheduling necessary drills
throughout the year.
