Annotated Bibliography
Reflection

I have chosen to talk about the recent Ukraine crises as my topic in the
Annotated bibliography assignment. I have always had interest in politics and
different world governments; I always loved geography and history. The Ukraine
crises topic includes all what I am interested in. This assignment gives me the
chance to dig in more about this global issue, and research it professionally.
Russia is one of the strongest countries in the world. It has been known for its
recent violent history during the last two world wars. It was an active member of
World War II, Russia was the headquarters for what it was called not too long ago as
the Soviet Union or some might call the soviet empire. Soon enough after World War
II there was no more soviet union it was only Russia.
Ukraine Borders Russia to the east and northeast, and is the largest country
in Europe excluding Russia. Ukraine was a part of the Soviet Union before its
independence in 1990. Crimea is a part Ukraine that Russia always had power over
and the people of Crimea have been always loyal to Russia.
Russia has a powerful army, but what makes this topic more interesting is that
the people of Crimea are demanding to join Russia, so this matter makes it even
tougher on the Ukrainian government.

Researching this topic was not as difficult; the Ukraine crisis is recent and
haven not yet ended. The hard part was choosing the sources because there are so
many events and stories happening, and every news channel, newspaper,
magazine, online news and news agency have their own report of the event or story.
I started by listing two sources each source contains an article about each country to
have a better general understanding of the countries that we are talking about. After
that I started gathering sources for various events and reports that I found interesting
to mention.
I have never heard of Crimea before. I was born in the 90s and was not born
early enough to witness the collapse of the soviet union therefore I have never heard
about Crimea before. But it is quite interesting how this small part of a country is now
globally known, and that happening within a few days only. The power of media
plays a huge role in that aspect.
Russia has grown loyalty for itself in the Crimean people for many years. Now
it is using that as a power of its own; the power of the people is really strong that it is
nearly impossible to overpower it.
What I learned about this topic is that using people as power is much more
efficient than an army or weapons. I learned that this whole Crisis is a smart move
from Russia, and it made all this mess without using one of its weapons or even a
bullet of theirs. And it can surely end it that way since it has the people of Crimea on
its side, and since the people are on their side no one can stop them from getting
what they want. Good planning is always the best way to get things done.

important concern is that if Russia will stop after this. Many ask if Russia will continue on
invading the former Soviet states. Another concern would be if Russia is planning to roll

World?" The Tap: How Powerful Is Russia's Military Today? Will Putin Shock the
World? BlogSpot, 28 Feb. 2014. Web. 20 Apr. 2014.
The article speaks about Russia's army. Questioning if Russia's army is indeed as powerful as the
world thinks. The world did not think that Russia can gain military power this part, but
Russia's income has risen significantly in the past few years, and has spent a large portion of
its income towards military development. Russia is one the biggest natural gas suppliers in
the world giving it power over neighboring countries such as Ukraine. The price of building
war machines or weapons costs a fraction of what it would cost the Unites States or Britain
therefore they have a high production efficiency.

"U.S., Six Other Western Nations Vote to Kick Russia out of G8."FOX6Nowcom. CNN
Wire Services, 24 Mar. 2014. Web. 20 Apr. 2014.
The United States and six other nations have voted to kick out Russia from the G8 in response to the
Ukraine crisis. The nations say that there is no use of Russia anymore on the other hand
Russia responds with that it is not a big of a deal if it gets kicked out. That response
conclude that Russia is powerful and is in no need of other nations or a membership in the
G8. The response also means that Russia being kicked out of the G8 would not effect its
intentions or policy.

Walker, Shaun. "Ukraine Crisis Escalates." The Guardian. Guardian News and Media, 08
Apr. 2014. Web. 20 Apr. 2014.
Pro-Russian activities in Ukraine in Donetsk declare independence. It is possible for another Crimea
situation to happen in the east. Moscow is telling Ukraine to stop blaming everything on
Russia. Ukraine is in a situation where rather Russia takes over their eastern lands or if not
Ukraine would face unrest trouble thru out its future.
