Introduction
Todays electricity infrastructure is inadequate to meet rising
consumer needs and expectations
In 2001 EPRI and the electricity innovation institute initiated
Consortium for electric Infrastructure to support a digital society
To build public/private partnerships to meet the energy needs of tomorrows society
The consortium has more that over 50 collaborative partners

Five Functionalities :
Visualizing the power system in real time
Increasing system capacity :
Transmission circuit
Bringing substation lines up to NERC N 1 Criteria
Improvement on data infrastructure
Upgrading control centers and updating protection schemes and relay

To eliminate many of the bottlenecks that currently limit a truly
functional wholesale market and to assure system stability
Increasing power flow , enhanced voltage support
