By Emily Dickinson
[Analysis]
Exhilaration is the Breeze [1]
That lifts us from the Ground [2]
And leaves us in another place [3]
Whose statement is not found -- [4]
Returns us not, but after time [5]
We soberly descend [6]
A little newer for the term [7]
Upon Enchanted Ground -- [8]
Poem 1118 [F1157]
"Exhilaration is the Breeze"
Analysis by David Preest
[Poem]
In the second part of this definition of Exhilaration Emily may be thinking of the return of Jesus' disciples from the mountain of
Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-9). Line 4 perhaps means that the place to which Exhilaration lifts us cannot be described by some statement
of fact. It is as 'reportless' as the Joy of poem 1382.
