Reflective Cover Letter
Dear Cris Longhurst,
Over the course of this semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer. I was able to express
myself as a writer in all of the assignments we were given. The pieces that I believe where I was able to
demonstrate this the most are Reflective Writing Analysis, Summary, and Rhetorical Strategies.
The first piece that I am including is the Reflective Writing Analysis assignment. The
assignment gave me insight on my writing style, allowing me to see how I and why I write the way I do.
It also showed me what improvements I needed and still can improve on. Such as FLOW. I have
learned when I write, I leave things out. I forget to write my complete thoughts on paper. I felt that the
reader would be able to understand this by reading short sentences paragraphs that I had written.
The second piece that I am including is the application, Summary. This was a fun assignment.
I realized the importance of knowing how to summarize something you have read, seen, or heard. I
learned that this is a valuable skill, one you have probably used in many writing assignments. It is
important, though, to recognize when you must go beyond describing, explaining, and restating texts and
offer a more complex analysis.
The final piece that I am including is the Rhetorical Strategies assignment. This assignment was
a great lesson. Learning the importance and understanding how to analyze specific trends, topics, and
issues. By using a combination of my own words, quotes and ideas of others, showed me the
importance of this process. I now think about the rhetorical strategies which you will use to present my
ideas and evidence to readers. These strategies, sometimes called rhetorical modes or techniques, help
me as a writer to present organized evidence, connect facts into a sequence, and provide clusters of
information nec essary for conveying a purpose or an argument. As a writer you can choose to analyze
the cause of an outcome, compare one thing to another, classify your facts into categories, dene a key
term, describe a person, place, or phenomenon, explain how a process works, or narrate a pertinent
event or experience.

I feel that taking this course and learning the different processes used in writing I was able to
grow as a writer. I am more confident in my writing than I was at the beginning of the semester. I have
learned new techniques that will help me in future English courses, and also in my daily writing.
