Crossing The Threshold

Heart racing, palms sweaty, my bodys tense, Do I have to? I asked with my voice
shaking. Yes, Alex, you wanted this in the first place, my mom says looking at me. I know,
but what if no one likes me, or I dont make any friends I said ranting on. You're overthinking
this Alex. Now go inside and I will pick you up after okay? I sighed and nodded my head.
Looking out the window, I saw a girl wearing a pink and blue dress with a zig zag black belt
around her waist. She was smiling and waving goodbye to her family. Looking back at my mom,
I sighed again, Okay, okay, Ill see you later I said. My hand hovered over the latch, I was
about to open the door. I twisted it slowly, but then pulled back and slumped back in my seat. I-
I cant do it I said. I looked at my mom and I could tell she was impatient with me. Alex, go. I
bet youll have a good time, now hurry before it starts without you. She said clearly annoyed
with me. I nodded my head and got out. Bye I said quietly waving as my mom drove off.
Walking on the pavement, the air smelled fresh, and I loved how the wind blew my hair.
Walking up to the doors, I stopped in my pace. I looked up and saw ACADEMY FOR
MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE & ENGINEERING in bold red letters.
Walking in, I saw a group of girls talking to each other like they had been best friends for
years. feeling socially awkward I am, I walked to the corner, and waited. Waiting for what
seemed like hours but was only 2 minutes, I saw two girls walking. The one with blond hair
smelled like strawberries, and the one with the jet-black hair smelled like bread which seemed
weird. As they walked past me, I gave the girl who smelled like bread a weird expression, but
thank goodness they didn't look at me. As I continued to wait, two boys ran down the hall; I
inhaled their cologne. Mmm I thought. I might be weird smelling guys colognes, but they
smell nicer than girls perfume. Still waiting in the corner, I noticed more kids come in. Still in
the corner, I knew no one, until suddenly I saw a familiar face. James and my eyes connected, I
never knew you were coming to AMES I said surprised. He nodded, Well, we didnt know
each other that much in Matheson I nodded agreeing what he said. Putting my hands in my
pocket, we started talking until an adult came up to us with a student. Hello, Im Ms. Honey,
Im the new vice principal, and this is Kylie, she recently moved here she said, pointing to the
tall blonde girl. I mentally laughed at her name, because it reminded me of the movie Honey
starring Jessica Alba. That first day I made about two friends, and I felt comfortable around
them, but it was still awkward.
The second day came, and I made more new friends. This showed me that I was nervous
at the beginning for nothing, but it was a new chapter in my life in a new world. I honestly
thought AMES was a weird school with weird teachers, but turns out, they just want the best for
us, and be our friends. I finally came out of my shell and I was happy, and it reflected back to my
family. During the experience, I thought of the things I would never do. On the first day, I made
friends quickly. The second day I made more friends, and more memories. As the day came to an
end, I went back home blabbing on how much I loved the school so much, and I how met some
great people. When the next morning came, I dreaded the day so much. I didnt want to end my
fun here with the new friends I made. Mom, I wish that Freshman House would be for a week
I said as we pulled up. Youll see them again in August I nodded and went inside. As I saw
that we were breaking boards, I was nervous. I had never done anything like it. When I wrote
down what I wanted to conquer, I was panicking. I was last, and finally my turn came. I was
nervous and shaking badly, but once I broke that board, I crossed into the threshold that I never
knew I could in my life.
