Fundraiser Description and Run of Show

Date and Time:
The target date for hosting this fundraiser is May 3
rd
2014.
Hosting the event on a Saturday is an ideal day for a family outing because most parents do not have to work on
weekends and will not conflict with nightly schoolwork. We decided to host this fundraiser in May because of
(hopefully) warm and sunny weather. This date is also ideal because it is exactly 2 months before we need to
start preparing our budget for the next year. If we raise the goal amount of money it will really aid in planning
the budget.
This event will run from: 12:00pm-8:00pm
To accommodate for parents that do work during the day we have extended the fundraiser into the evening so
that people do not miss out because of work.

Location:
Mitchell Park in Brookfield is the ideal location for this fundraiser. Mitchell Park is centrally located between
Waukesha and Brookfield and has plenty of space for all the activities. The park has a pavilion that will be ideal
for hosting a picnic lunch/dinner out of and a grassy area that will be ideal for the inflatables and carnival
games. There is adequate parking and it is easy to find. There is also a playground for kids to play on between
events! This event is one that needs to held outside because of space and to accommodate the types of
entertainment we want to have.

Below: Mitchell Park

Pricing:
We want to make this an affordable event for families, but we also want to raise money for our classes. To do
this the following prices below will be charged for the event.

$20.00 for a family of 4 (This will include lunch/dinner and all activities Families will each be given a
food voucher to avoid people coming through more than once)
o Each additional family member will be $1.00
o Members will be limited to direct family (Mom, Dad, Kids or Caregivers and Kids)
o Grandparents and Extended family will be $6.00 each
o Individuals will be $7.00 each
Our end goal should be to raise $2,000 to help fund our classes for over a year! That means we need at least 100
families to come through the gates!
Even though food will be included in the admission price there will be donation jars with Suggested Donation
on them. Hopefully people will have generous hearts. While families will each receive a food voucher the
Snack food, (cotton candy, ice cream ect.) will be all you can eat!

Activities:
This childrens carnival will include the following:
Carnival Games Few examples below:
o Bozo Bucket Toss
Participants will each get 5 balls and get 5 attempts to get the balls into 1
of 5 buckets. The father away the bucket the more points! The more points
you get the more candy you can pick from the bucket!
o Rubber Ducky Pull
Pull a duck out of the floating pool and see which number you pick. Each
number corresponds with a prize!
o The Fishing Pond
Throw your fishing pole in and see what you are able to catch! (Throw
their line behind a sheet, a volunteer attached a small trinket to the pole)
o Milk Bottle Throw
How many milk bottles can you knock down? Classic fair game
o Minute to Win-It Games
A series of games that only take one minute to play. Winner takes all!
Games can include (one handed tissue pull, card blowing, Oreo cookie
race, cup stacking)
These are only a few examples, volunteers can create their own fun carnival games, we

bouncy house and four other inflatable games including

this event.
Biographical Sketches
Bouncy The Clown Bouncy is a local Waukesha performer who specializes in balloon animals, comedy,
face painting, and making kids smile. She graduated from Clown College ten years ago and has been working
with kids and families ever since. She comes highly recommended and is the most popular birthday performer
in the area. She has agreed to work this even for free as she loves what our mission supports and loves the idea
of a carnival. During the carnival Bouncy will put on two different shows at different periods throughout the
day and when not doing the two shows will be face painting the kids!

Tyler Landers Tyler is a local magician who specializes in card tricks, disappearing acts, and audience
interactive shows. He is currently a student at UW-Milwaukee and has close ties with the Waukesha/Brookfield
community. He went to school in Waukesha his entire life and works at the YMCA in Brookfield. He enjoys
doing magic for fun and has created a very successful small business out of it. He typically is booked for

shows during the day. When he is not doing shows he will be just hanging out and interacting with the kids and
families.

Rebout Farms Rebout Farms is located in Janesville, Wisconsin and is a family dairy farm. They have
been established for around 50 years. They specialize in dairy cows but also are the home to chickens, goats,
sheep, mini horses, pigs, and numerous cats and dogs. While the Rebouts specialize in dairy cows they also
pride themselves on children education on agriculture. They feel that educating kids about how farms work is
incredibly important. They have been doing educational and information speeches for 15 years and is something
they pride themselves on. They were very excited hearing about the Carnival and volunteered to bring up some
animals to put on a petting zoo for the families! They will also be providing educational material. They do all
educational speeches free of charge.

is located in Waukesha on Bluemound Rd. Monkey Joes has many different inflatables for kids to run, jump,

community. Each employee goes through 60 hours of safety training on the inflatables including maintenance
and operation safety. Inflatables include bouncy houses, obstacle courses, boxing rings, slides, and many more.
After contacting Monkey Joes and explaining our fundraiser they have graciously offered to donate some of
their inflatables and staff for the duration of our fundraiser.

Sponsors

This fundraiser would not be possible without having sponsors to donate not only items but to donate
monetarily. Since this is a community event there should be no lack of donors. We will be asking donors for a

Public Relations Networking Assignment
Introduction:
When looking at my network connections I seem to have many different contacts that
stem from different relationships in my life. They all seem to be pretty spread across the board
and seem evenly dispersed between of connections from my family, family friends, friends and
colleagues. When trying to pick which connections were most important and relevant to my life I
found it somewhat difficult. Im not sure what I want to do upon graduation so deciding which
contacts would be most useful was a bit of a struggle. The ten network connections that I decided
on I found to be the most practical for things I would potential need in my future and I chose
people who have already benefitted my professional life so far. I feel that I could get in contact
with any of these people and have them assist me in whatever endeavor I may be encountering.
To get in direct contact with these people I would only have to contact the person who I know
them through to gain their contact information.

Connections:

U.S Senator Paul Ryan: Paul Ryan is a native of my hometown, Janesville, Wisconsin. I
spent time growing up knowing that he was an important man and that he did very
important things for our country. I never started realizing how beneficial he was to my
professional life until I was a senior in high school. While taking my AP Government and
Politics class we were required to spend a week in Washington D.C interviewing policy
makers, activists, and Congressmen for a paper that we needed to write, because I knew
that Paul Ryan was from Janesville and had even taken this class I reached out to him to
help me secure interviews with various individuals. I feel that I would be able to reach
out to Senator Ryan for helping with my professional career. I can easily make this
connection by using my AP Government teacher Mr. Joe VanRooy or even our family
friends the Sellmans who are personal friends with the Ryans. By using these people I
could get directly in contact with Paul Ryan.

Jim Wisemann Vice President of Enrollment Jim Wisemann is the Vice President of
Enrollment here at Carroll University. I feel that Jim is a very valuable personal
connection that I have and can use in the future. The connection that I have to Jim is that
he is my supervisors boss in the Admissions office. Jim travels all over the country and
even the world giving presentations about how Carroll as a whole runs and the special
programs that we run here. Through these travels he has made numerous connections at
various universities and with other professionals.

Jerry Spelieus- Jerry is my grandmas co-workers son in law and my moms high school
friends husband. Jerry is a MLB umpire and has been for many years. Jerry has afforded
me many opportunities to meet higher-ups in the baseball world and will continue to
throughout my life. I have considered going into PR and event planning in the future and
I feel like having his connection to Jerry will be very beneficial if I ever do decide to go
into this field because I will have access to the big wigs in the sports world.

Susan Reiss- Susan Reiss is my dads cousin Susan owns a hiring agency in Madison that
hires for large companies in the surrounding area. A big client that she works with are
non-profits in the Madison area. Susan is a great connection for me because I want to
work in the non-profit world in some way. I feel that I could reach out to Susan to help
secure a job in the Madison area or at least get my name out to companies that are hiring.
I could contact Susan easily by reaching out via Facebook or getting her direct number
from my Dad.
Kris and Tim Wondergem I know Kris and Tim Wondergem through their youngest son
Charlie. Charlie and I met at a Leadership Conference called People to People when we
were 13 and have stayed in contact over the years. Kris and Tim own and run their own
consulting company that has clients in 30 different states. Not only do they consult for
various businesses but also handle a lot of PR for them as well. I feel that I could reach
out to Kris and Tim to help me with professional development. They see hundreds of
resumes a week and know exactly what to look for on one. Kris and Tim would be easy
to contact through Charlie.

Denise Nahley Denise Nahley is a developer for Apple Co. I know Denise through her
daughter Alyssa. Alyssa and I went to summer camp together for 10 years and we are
also in the same sorority Alpha Xi Delta. Denise is always getting asked if she knows
people to fill jobs that are available at Apple and she only recommends the absolute best.
I feel that I could present myself to Denise as a potential candidate for a job at Apple.
Denise works in Illinois and is very easily accessible to me through Alyssa. I see Denise
a few times a year at church and feel that I could reach out to her for advice on obtaining
a job
Mary-Kay Wolf Mary-Kay Wolf is the Executive Director of United Way in Lacrosse,
Wisconsin. I know Mary-Kay through her sister Sharon Engh. Sharon and I have worked
together at a summer camp for three summers. United Way is a very large non-profit
organization and I have done volunteer work for them before. This is an organization that
I would love to have job with someday. My connection with Sharon has led me to have a
connection with her sister Mary-Kay. Although I have not yet utilized this network that I
have I could see it providing me many opportunities in the future.

Chris Becker Chris Becker is the Executive Director at the YMCA in Waukesha. I
know Chris through his wife Nancy Becker who is the Administrative Assistant in the
Admissions Office. Not only is Chris a great connection to have in the professional world
but he is also just an inspiration. He started way at the bottom when he started working at
the YMCA and is now the person in charge of everything. I have gone to Chris to have

my resume looked at, asked questions about how to interview correctly and just to get
advice on how to advance in the professional world. Having this connection with Chris
has given me possible job opportunities as well. He recently contacted me about a new
YMCA opening and a possible post-college job that he would be more than happy to
recommend me to.

Sandra Cunningham Sandra is a 1978 Carroll Graduate who graduated with a degree in
Elementary Education. I met Sandra at an Alumni dinner in October of 2012. Sandra
graduate with one of the admissions counselors that I work for, Debbie. Debbie
introduced us at the dinner and it turns out that Sandra and I had pretty similar college
experiences. My connection to Sandra through Debbie has the potential to benefit me in
my professional life. Sandra owns her own computer business and has a lot of experience
especially when it comes to switching jobs and how make the switch easier.

Joan Neeno I know Joan Neeno through my mom. Joan works with my mom at St.
Marys Hospital in Janesville. Joan is friends with the founder and creator of Big Shoes
Network. Big Shoes Network is a website that hosts a listing of all different types of jobs
in the Communication field. When my mom told me about this I thought it was pretty
much the coolest thing ever! Not only do I use Big Shoes Network on a weekly basis but
its something we as Communication majors are told to check religiously as it will really
help us in the job search. I contacted Joan and asked her about her connection and Joan
told me that if I ever needed help finding a particular job or wanted more information that
she would be more than happy to provide me with the contact information to her friend.

The purpose of this memo is to discuss my feelings about the recent website assignment during
our Technical Writing Class and about how this course is going in general.
Summary:
Overall I really enjoyed the website assignment. I felt that it was very worthwhile and was quiet
education and helpful not only for this course for but for future projects we may encounter. I also
feel that this course is going very well.

Discussion:
I was quiet apprehensive about the website assignment at first. I had already learned how to use
Weebly in a prior course and felt like it was something that I did not really need a review on but
after working on it for a while I felt like it was very worthwhile, especially getting to view other
students websites as well. I really liked only having to make one page and not having to worry
about creating an entire website. It was nice knowing I only had to focus on making one page
and its surroundings look really nice. I felt like I was able to make a quality website with the
knowledge that I had but after playing around and seeing what other people were able to create I
was able to make something that exceeded what I thought I was able do. I also feel that this skill
of being able to design a nice clean website will be useful in the future.

While looking at others websites I was able to see how to improve my own. I really liked my
classmates layouts and how they utilized the white space that seemed to plague mine. I didnt
know how to fill mine without making it look too cluttered and overwhelming. I sometimes find
myself being too concerned about making things look pretty and not as concerned about making
them functional. I also get too worried about there being too much information on the screen so I
almost dumb it down too much. Looking at what my classmates created really helped me see that
I dont need to have these problems

Overall I feel like this class is going well, but after tonights class I became incredibly
overwhelmed. Having three huge Capstone projects due and now this gigantic proposal paper is
making me panic ever so slightly. I feel like I am not going to produce a quality proposal paper
because I am going to be far too concerned with finishing Capstone in a quality that suits what
Dr. Imes wants us to have. Needless to say I am slightly stressed out and worried that I wont be
able to hold my A in this class because of the proposal paper.
Recommendations:
I feel like it would be nice to have some words of comfort so I can stop freaking out about
keeping an A in this class while also trying to pass Capstone.

Meowsers Press Release

New Luxury Cat Store Opening in Rehabilitated, Historic Building Downtown
Downtown Chicagos Third Ward will soon be welcoming Meowsers, a luxury cat product
manufacturing company, specializing in luxury cat beds. Meowsers makes their cat beds out of a space
age foam material that is both hypo-allergenic and environmentally safe. Perfect for those cat lovers who
want to still be green. The company was founded in June of 1999 by Karen Church. When asked why
Church developed this unique company she stated, People invest in their pets- its one of the fastest
growing consumer markets out there. I want to combine a love of animals with environmental and
business savvy that makes supporting animals a win- win situation for everyone.
While the products may be on the more expensive side for pet products, consumers are willing to spend
the extra money. Matt McDonald, a shopper at Meowsers, said, It might seem weird to spend so much
on a pet, but many people like me have pets instead of children. Then, it makes more sense. Based off of
consumer spending habits, Meowsers is forecasted to be a lucrative business.
Meowesers will be opening in late summer as construction is already underway in an old refrigerator
building in the Third Ward. While construction may be loud and messy this new company will only boost
Third Ward business. You can check out Meowsers products at www.meow.com and can they be reached
at 414-222-1999 for any questions.
