Analyze the Role of Heredity and the Environment

When I was thinking about this paper and what I wanted to write it made me think
about being Catholic and how we believe in being pro-life. And there is some things in the
catholic church I agree with and dont but this is one of them because I one dont believe in
abortion and second after reading this book it talked about how life really does start after
conception and development does start at conception. And the influences the environment and
someones heredity can really impact a child from conception. Environment influences is
completely different then heredity influences. In chapter 2 of the book Children it talked
about heredity-environment correlations, which is that individuals gene may influence the
types of environments to which they are exposed. There are three ways that heredity and
environment are correlated. Passive genotype-environment correlations occur because
biological parents, who are genetically related to the child, provide a rearing environment for
the child. Evocative genotype-environment correlation occur because a childs characteristics
elicit certain types of environments. And last active genotype-environment correlations occur
when children seek out environments that they find compatible and stimulating. Heredity and
environment operate together to produce a persons intelligence, temperament, height,
weight, physical ability, ability to anything.
Some ways that the environment can influence a child development is during prenatal
development, toxins, nutrition, and stress can really influence some genes to stop functioning
while others become stronger or weaker. Some things that are environment influences that
could affect a childs development is if the mother takes taking prescription and
nonprescription drugs can have an effect on the embryo or the fetus, other things that can have
an effect of the child caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, heroin.
Some other environmental hazards can be radiation, toxic wastes, and other chemical
pollutants.
Each parent contributes half of the offsprings genetic material. Half of your genetic
material is from your mom and the other half is from your dad. Some genetic abnormalities are
phenylketonuria (PKU) it is a genetic disorder in which the individual cannot properly
metabolize phenylalanine, an amino acid. Sickle-cell anemia is another genetic disorder that
impairs the bodys red blood cells. One of the chromosomes you give your child could be
carrying something and that could potential be given to your child, and they could then either
be the carrier like you were or they could potentially have the disease, that is why they have
genetic testing to see if you are a carrier of something that you could pass down to your
children. Some of your chromosomes can affect your childs development.
There are so many different environment and heredity influences that can effect a
childs development.
