FiveyearsfromnowIseemyselffinishingmylastyearofcollege,andtryingmybesttoreceive
myMastersinOccupationalTherapy.IchosetogotocollegeinsteadofworkbecausewhatIwantto
beneedsaMastersdegreeandtheonlywaytogetthatisifIgotocollege.Iplanonachievingmygoal
asanOccupationalTherapistby,ofcourse,finishinguphighschoolandreceivingmyhighschool
diploma.IwillthenattendMercedCommunityCollegetogetmyprerequisitesandthentransfertoSan
JoseStateUniversity.OnceIgetintoSanJoseState,IwillenrollintotheirOccupationalTherapy
programandhopefullygetajobasanOTonceIfinishwithmyschooling.
OnceIfinishwithhighschoolandachievemydiplomaIwillenrolltoMercedCommunity
Collegeinthefall.ForthefallsemesterIwilltakeanEnglishclass,amathclass,abiologyclass,and
alsoapsychologyclass.DuringmytimeasafulltimestudentIplanonhavingaparttimejobtohelp
payformystudentfinances.IplanonstayinginMercedforaminimumoftwoyears.OnceIhave
fulfilledallmyrequirementsandhavecompletedenoughcollegecreditIwilltransfertoSanJoseState.
ThereasonwhyIplantogotoMercedCollegefirstinsteadofgoingstraighttoSanJoseStateis
becausemyfamilysfinancialproblemisveryunstable.Andeventhoughtherearescholarshipsand
financialaidthatwillhelp,thereisnoguaranteethatIwillhaveenoughmoneythatwillpayformeto
dorm.HopefullyIwouldhavesavedupenoughmoneywithinthetwoyearstolethelpmelive
comfortablyenoughuntilIfindanotherjobinthearea.
OnceIgetacceptedtoSanJoseState,IwillmoveoutofMercedandrentanapartmentwitha
friendwhoalsoplanstolivewithintheareaatthattime.AtSanJoseStateIwillgoformybachelors
degreeinbiology.Thiswouldtakeabouttwoyearstocomplete.AftergettingmybachelorsIwill
continueonwithmyeducationandgoformyMastersinOccupationalTherapy.FormyMasters
degree,thatwillalsotakeabouttwoyearstocomplete.WithinthosetwoyearsIwillbelearningabout
anatomy,patientcare,andassistivetechnologyintheirfieldandsocial/medicalconditions.Iwouldalso
needtocoversomefieldworkforthisposition,soIwouldhavetovolunteeratplacessuchasnursing
homes,rehabcenters,orschools.AfterIhadgraduatedfromSanJoseStateandhadreceivedmy
MastersdegreeIwouldneedtotaketheNBCOT(NationalBoardCertificateforOccupational
Therapy).TakingthattestwillhelpmegetmylicensesothatIcouldfinallypracticeasanOccupational
Therapist.
