FUNCTION: CARGO HANDLING & STOWAGE AT MANAGEMENT

NOTES:
1. Question No.1 is compulsory.
2. Attempt all Questions.
3. All questions carry equal marks (i.e. 20 marks each).
Q.1 M.V. Hindship arrived Cochin port with drafts F: 7.23m, Mid: 8.33m & A: 9.23m in
R.D of 1.010. After discharging partly she sailed drawing 6.20m on even keel with 8 cms
sag in water of R.D 1.020. Calculate how much cargo she discharged if she had
replenished in this port DO/110 mt & FW/ 240 mt and consumed 12 mt of DO and 65 mt
of FW during her port stay.
Q.2 a) Enumerate the responsibility of chief officer with respect to signing of Mates
receipts and issuance of letter of protest to shippers and cargo receivers?
b) Describe the various procedures to check the weather tightness of hatch covers and
explain on the common defects/damages as noted on hatch covers and in Cargo holds
of a bulk carrier.
Q.3 a) Explain the factors to be considered for planning and Stowage of Containers.
b) Explain on the precautions to be taken for stowage and carriage of Dangerous Cargo
Containers.
Q.4 a) What are the General Practices for safe stowage and securing of cargo?
b) Explain on the following,
i. Precautions during loading of Timber Deck cargo.
ii. Height of Timber Deck Cargo.
iii. Guidelines for under deck stowage of logs.

Q.5 a. Explain on the precautions to be observed during shore Ramp operation and on
the ventilation systems of a PCC.
b. Describe the procedure for preparation of Cargo space on a Reefer ship for carriage
of Bananas.
