Scenario:
You are asked to design a 30-minute engaging instructional lesson for a PreK-
20 grade of your choice, for a subject of your choice.

For my scenario I chose to design a lesson plan for a third grade classroom.
These students will consist of both boys and girls from ages seven to eight years old.
I will prepare a total of thirty minutes of instruction. This instruction will consist of
many different educational tools including a presentation, handout and excel
spreadsheet. The general subject being taught will be basic math operations. The
students will learn specific addition and subtraction problems using strategies
taught to them. The lesson and instruction will consist of first a presentation
explaining said strategies. Then I will move onto active learning by asking the
students to participate in answering questions. Finally I will complete the lesson
with the handout and assess the students understanding.

Objectives:
The objectives for these thirty minutes of instructional design are as follows:
Concepts of Addition with Decimals
Concepts of division with multiple digit Numbers

Background information: First through this process the student will posses the
understanding of complex addition problems. For example adding with multiple
digit numbers as well as adding with decimals. They will also understand how to
subtract complexly with subtracting larger digit numbers. The students will learn
the strategies to do so through the PowerPoint presentation. These strategies will
include for addition lining up the problem by place value or decimal. For subtraction
students will learn the strategy called the borrowing method, which will help them
properly, subtract a smaller digit from a larger digit.

Materials and Resources:
These thirty minutes of instruction will require many materials. Mainly these
materials will consist of a technology component like Microsoft word, excel and
PowerPoint each of these will be explained later in the instructional design.
Classroom components will include the obvious white board, pencils and paper. I
will also use a class set of wooden blocks.
Technology:
For this instructional process it will require some means of technology. The
main source of technology will need to be a computer enabled with:
Microsoft Office:
o Excel
o Word
o PowerPoint
Also when presenting this information to the class I will need a proper projection
source, that may be a projector or smart board.
Strategies:
The Strategies used throughout this lesson will be involving the class with
Active Learning. I will provide the class with questions throughout the
instructional presentation and allow students to answer the question voluntarily
and if confident enough in their abilities solving said problem on the board for
classmates to see as well. Throughout the lesson I will continuously be asking
students questions and asking them to demonstrate their knowledge. Finally as a
classroom activity we will answer a few questions using the wooden blocks allowing
students to get a hands on experience
Assessment:
The assessment within this lesson will involve a worksheet or handout at the
conclusion of the lesson. I will create this handout using Microsoft Word. The
handout will consist of problems that will allow the student to demonstrate their
knowledge and progress on the subject. Once the students have completed this
worksheet I will grade the sheets and put the resulting data in an Excel spreadsheet.
Once the classrooms data is entered into the spreadsheet I will calculate the classs
average as a whole and determine whether the subject matter is properly
understood.
