Scarlett Middle School Ann Arbor Public Schools Taught sixth grade social studies, sixth grade language arts, and Read 180. Collaborated with a team of sixth grade teachers to guide students in exploring history of the ancient world and sixth grade language arts as they entered the world of middle school. With a strong focus on building relationships, promoting self-discipline, and independence, I created a learning community with high expectations in my classroom. Implemented positive behavior strategies based on Developmental Design work. Worked in close collaboration with the University of Michigans School of Education on several projects with topics including; reading in content areas, leading small discussions around text, and strategies for classroom management. Coordination of projects included the management of up to 30 UM interns and 34 middle school students simultaneously. Taught as a lead teacher in the AAPS ESL Extended School Year Program during the summer of 2010 to English language learners from 5th to 7th grade. This program was a joint project between AAPS and U of M. Piloted new and innovative technology for AAPS in my classroom. Piloting included troubleshooting, feedback, and demonstration of technology under consideration by the district. 1st Grade Classroom Teacher

Bryant Elementary School Ann Arbor Public Schools Worked on a team of first grade teachers in a lower elementary building. Taught all subjects to a racially and economically diverse student group. Coordinated classroom lessons with intervention specialists, and community resources to develop units aligned with state GLCEs and district outcomes. Used curriculum including; Everyday Math, Social Studies Alive, Fountas and Pinnell Readers Workshop, Lucy Calkins Writers Workshop, and AAPS Science Curriculum. Served on the equity team and elementary science curriculum council.

South Arbor Academy Worked as part of a fifth grade team with a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. Enriched Open Court and Saxon Math curriculum with interactive explorations, and small group instruction. Pattengill Elementary School Ann Arbor Public Schools Interned in a fifth grade classroom in a socioeconomically, racially diverse Title I school that included students certified as ESL and as Special Education. Differentiated math instruction for different learning styles using PowerPoint, small group, and whole class instruction. Supplemented the Every Day Math curriculum with relevant examples and designed additional practice to raise the ability level of each of my students. Implemented Fountas & Pinnell guiding readers strategies in both book club and guided reading group settings. Adapted the Ann Arbor Public School and MyAccess persuasive essay writing materials, creating a unique constructive writing experience that exposed students to multimedia graphic organizers and technology. Differentiated, modified, and scaffolded my lessons to support the unique set of needs my students.

ESL Teaching Internship

Member Services Coordinator Coordinated and expanded the Museums Birthday Party Program including the development, pilot and implementation of age appropriate, hands-on, science education activities for elementary-aged children.
