Darfur Genocide

Began in 2003-2005 under the shadow of the war in Iraq. Darfur is a region within Sudan which is about the size of France. At first was virtually unnoticed. Has precipitated the first great episode of genocidal destruction in the 21st century. Victims were of non-Arab or African tribal groups of Darfur. War has existed in mostly southern and northern parts of Sudan. Villages would get raided by the government of Sudan. Killed 400,000 people, another 2,500,000 others missing or

Art of Darfur Genocide

Artist: Mitch Lewis Sculpture: Darfur and American Activism Explores the human impact on genocide, and within that region of Sudan.

Kinesthetic imagery in Darfur

The feeling of loneliness and abandonment that was felt throughout all of the Darfur genocide victims The kinesthetic imagery of the care that America, as well as other countries gave during the time of the Darfur genocide. It either wasnt very much, or none at all was put into during this time.

Kinesthetic Imagery in Night

Look at these men whom you have betrayed, allowing them to be tortured, slaughtered, gassed, and burned...I was alone, terribly alone in a world without God, without man. (Wiesel 68). The kinesthetic imagery of hundreds of thousands of people feeling abandoned by the only person that they believe could possibly help them out of this situation.

Comparison of Imagerys

Both show how little care there was for the genocide victims at first and how no one took real notice of the problem until it was in full swing. Implies how the world treated them during the genocides. Both looked for the help of known allies, both had at first been ignored by their allies. Bring out a tone of sadness and abandonment.

Motif of Night

Eliezer constantly brings up the idea in many other parts of the book that God is not helping them, and more than once questions God for not helping the Jews when they needed it. This brings up regularly occurring emotions of abandonment, and loneliness throughout Holocaust victims.

Motifs of Darfur

Darfur, in the beginning of the genocide was not paid any attention to. Most counties believed it was not a big a situation as it turned out to be. Darfur victims and survivors felt abandoned and alone when nothing was done to help for so long.

Comparison of Motifs

Both genocides show motifs of countries and people not taking action against genocides such as this one, where they are portrayed to be smaller situations than they really are. Both show how victims and survivors of the genocide were treated and how they felt during the genocide.
