Activity Description

Assessment issued via email and discussion in class. Examined the sheet carefully and started the timeline. 05/03/2014 Investigation ideas researched. Possible investigations: - Does cold water freeze faster than cold water? - What will prevent apple from browning? - Do all stains come out in hot water? - What is the best paper material for a paper aeroplane to travel the furthest? 08/03/2014 Researched background information on removing stains in hot water and preservation methods for apple. Background research is an essential step in scientific method. Term 1 Week 7

10/03/2014 Decided on which investigation problem to experiment on What is the best preservation method to stop the apple from becoming brown the longest? I am interested in this problem. I will be able to complete it by the due date. I will learn the best method to stop the apple fruit from browning through my observations and experiment. I believe the experiment will be specific enough so that I will be able to define exactly what I need to do. I have gained sufficient knowledge from background research and experience from example videos on science related websites that will be necessary for the project. I will be able to obtain all the equipment necessary for the project as the equipment are easy. This is indeed a project that I will be able to accomplish with very little or no outside help.

11/03/2014 Using the background research information, investigation proposal draft is written. The proposal include the problem, aim which can be answered, hypothesis (an inference using background information), equipment (carefully thinking of the experiment in order to present valid variables and risk assessment), variables (independent, dependent and controlled), method (step by step list that is easy for everyone to follow with no personal pronouns), risk assessment and bibliography (including the evaluation of the sites). Create the apple browning colour chart using variety image samples found on the internet and from the previous apple sample experiment.

12/03/2014 Type up the investigation proposal draft onto a document on laptop and checked for spelling, grammar errors and compare and checked with the criteria sheet. Term 1 Week 8 17/03/2014 Investigation Proposal due date. The Investigation Proposal handed it to the teacher. 19/03/2014 Mrs Mercado sent an email which include a sample website for referencing, studying the sample website and planning the pages for the website. 22/03/2014 Recording what had been done in the previous 3 weeks for the investigation problem into the timeline including images and links. Term 1 Week 9 24/03/2014 Read the investigation proposal and after small discussion with friends and after more research on the accurate scientific method and report, I suspected that my investigation proposal lacked the scientific diagram and more information on the hypothesis. Made a note to check with the teacher once they are handed it back to the students.

26/03/2014 Starting the website, and using Mrs. Mercados sample website as a reference, followed the plan for the pages, subpages, theme design and etc. 29/03/2014 Uploading the risk assessments and bibliography onto the website as it is definite that there will not any changes made to them. Term 1 Week 10 31/03/2014 Began the research on scientific method and found photographs for the theme background and gallery for the Weebly website.

03/04/2014 Updated the timeline, changed the background on Weebly website and it looked great. Sketch the draft of the scientific diagram to include in the methods. 05/04/2014 After the teacher has given back the investigation proposal with approval and small feedback, read over the investigation proposal and the small feedback and a scientific diagram was missing and the hypothesis was lacking as I had thought. Thinking of what the scientific diagram means and what to include as the equipment I had used for my experiment are not professional scientific equipment such as beaker, tripod and flask.

Term 1 Week 11

07/04/2014 Rewrote the hypothesis and variables and drew the scientific diagram of my methods after extension research. 09/04/2014 Researched more on scientific method to answer questions what is it, why it is important and how it helps with understanding the meaning of the investigation results. - Five main general directions to help with solving the problem. Ask a Question Do Background Research Construct a Hypothesis Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment Analyse Your Data and Draw a Conclusion Communicate Your Results

Allows individuals to demonstrate a theory or idea by making observations, or modelling how it works to search for cause and effect relationships in nature and the universe around us. Provides evidence to support its claims in a clear way for everyone to understand

12/04/2014 Collected and gathered all the equipment required. Updated the timeline. Uploaded the aim, hypotenuse, equipment, variables, and methods to the Weebly website. Holidays Week 1 16/04/2014 Performing the experiment and filmed the experiment in the kitchen where there is great light for the video. Total filming time 16 minutes. At 6:00 first observation of the apple segments were made and photographs were taken as part of results and the colour of the apple are rated using the apple browning colour rating chart. Apple segments were put back to place after recording. Again after 6 hours, at midnight the apple segments were again observed, the colours were recorded and

the photographs were taken.

17/04/2014 Every six hours, apple were observed, the colour recorded and photographs taken.

18/04/2014 Results finalised into a table and graph and uploaded onto the Weebly site.

Holidays Week 2

20/04/2014 24/04/2014

Wrote the conclusion incorporating both the aim and the hypotenuse into it. Also detailed discussion including what happened, why did it happened, and the evaluation of validity, reliability, accuracy and improvements/ successes. Video is edited. Cut down the 16 minutes length filmed into a 1 minute 30 seconds experiment in the video with the aim, hypotenuse, equipment and most importantly the results, the conclusion and the discussion presented in the video with simple, upbeat and happy instrumental music as the background music with simple video effects. The video is uploaded onto YouTube which took about 1 hour and 30 minutes despite the video being only 2 minutes long. Inserted the link of the video onto the Weebly website. 25/04/2014 Everything is uploaded onto the Weebly website and it is published and checking everything with the criteria and making sure all criteria requirements are completed and included. Made the website aesthetic yet still professional. Checked the grammar and punctuation and made sure that all the links were working. 27/04/2014 Asking friends and family to assess the website and check if all the links function properly and the YouTube video linked to Weebly site. Term 2 Week 1 28/04/2014 The Weebly website + the video link sent to the teacher for marking.
