Directions for Scoring Student Books

Students books may be scored when all tasks have been completed or at the end of each days assessment session. If you decide to score at the end of each session rather than waiting until the end, use the boxes at the bottom of each page instead of marking correct or incorrect responses on student work. A general rubric for holistic scoring is provided here. Specific rubrics for some items are also provided along with student work samples to help clarify these specific rubrics. Student explanations can be words, pictures, computations, or combinations of these. However, explanations of I counted, I used my brain, I used counters, I just know, etc. are incomplete and do not earn top score points. General Rubric for Holistic Scoring M S Correct answer and clear explanation Answer is incorrect, but explanation is given to indicate that the child is on the right track; or a correct response is given, but no explanation is provided; or correct response with mathematics explained, but the mathematics doesnt match the prompt. No response or an obviously wrong answer.

Point Value for Rubric M=3 S=1 U=0 Notes:

If scorer is debating between two scores and must interpret the answer, mark the lower score. If a child has Xed out an answer in order to self-correct, score the changed (new) answer. Students should work in the test booklet for non-performance based items. Scrap paper may be given for performance based items.

Specific Scoring Directions

Individual Student Summary Sheet (Digital File) List the month and year of test administration. For each objective, mark M, S, or U for the childs score. Print this sheet and staple it to the testing card to be placed in the students cumulative folder. Student Information Sheet/ 1st and 2nd Grade Testing Card Record the total number of points per strand from the Individual Student Summary Sheet. Figure the percentage correct by using the following formula:

Figure the totals by adding the number of points for each strand and using the following formula:

Record the results on the 1st and 2nd grade testing card then make a photocopy of the testing card. Place the original testing card, with the Individual Student Summary Sheet stapled to it, in the students cumulative folder. The other copy of the testing card is to be sent home with the report card.

Class Summary Sheet Form completed in Digital File This form should be sent to Tamara Stamey at the County Office.
