Students will need to have a loose-leaf binder, black or blue pens and colored pencils.
Students will be provided with a textbook.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: World History II is a course that studies mans achievements from the Renaissance to the present. Students will have notes, maps and primary sources that cover the Standards of Learning for World History II. A detailed description of the SOLs for this course can be found on-line at

Students will spend class time analyzing primary and secondary source documents; interpreting maps, graphs and illustrations; improving reading and writing skills; and taking notes based on lectures. There will be at least one project assigned per quarter. Goals: Goal #1: Historical Comprehension: describing history through the experiences of those who were there. We
will explore art, artifacts, architectural monuments, and literature to gain historical empathy. Goal #2: Geographical Literacy: understanding the physical and human characteristics of place, humanenvironment interaction, movement and cultural diffusion, and the physical and cultural characteristics of regions. Goal #3: Chronological Thinking: developing a clear sense of historical time in order to sequence events and explain patterns of historical succession, duration, continuity, and change. Goal #4: Critical Reading: using multiple strategies and literary resources to increase comprehension. Goal #5: Historical Analysis and Interpretation: evaluating and creating arguments; arriving at informed decisions based on available evidence about what happened, why and how it happened, and what implications resulted.

Course Rules: 1. Be prompt. There will be a short warm-up exercise or quiz daily. 2. Bring your textbook, a black or blue pen and colored pencils every day. You will also need a three ring binder. Notebook checks will be taken periodically for a grade. 3. Respect the person who is speaking and recognize that he/she owns the air. This means that students should not engage in off-topic conversations during lectures or presentations. 4. Stay on task and do not have off-topic conversations while doing class work. 5. Immediate compliance to the teachers instructions is required. 6. Complete all assignments on time. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get any notes and make-up work from me. Remember that getting make-up work is YOUR responsibility.

The make-up policy is as follows: Students have one day plus the number of missed days to turn in missed work.

GRADING POLICY: Students will be graded on tests, quizzes, projects, class work and homework assignments. I will be checking periodically to make sure that student notebooks contain all notes and essential handouts.
