Permeation

The potential for permeation exists in all plastic lined piping components. Many articles have been written about the rates of permeation of various chemicals through various pipe liner materials.
Testing performed by resin manufacturers has been comprised of thin films, and rather non-aggressive elements such as nitrogen, helium and water vapor. The results are inconclusive and cannot be directly related to the thicker liners used in the chemical industry. Test results have shown that thicker films, and increased crystallinity result in lower rates of permeation through these liners.

A thin liner and manufacturing shortcomings lead to most permeation problems.

Three basic process variables have a positive influence on the permeation of chemicals through pipe and hose liners:

Temperature Pressure Concentration

Important in limiting permeation are the following factors:

A thick liner and advanced manufacturing techniques give Resisoflex hose superior permeation resistance.

Selectin of proper resin Method of processing resin Liner thickness

Resistoflex recognizes and understands our customer's needs for durable permeation resistant lined hose components, and maximizes resin properties to achieve this.

As the molecular weight of PTFE decreases, crystallinity increases. As crystallinity increases, permeation decreases. Crystallinity is controlled during processing. Fast cooling = low crystallinity. Slow cooling = high crystallinity.

Coupled with the thickest liners in the industry, our processing capabilities enable us to offer the most permeation resistant liners available. Permeation comparison against the liner thickness of the ASTM F 1545: liner thickness Permeation Diameter ASTM RX SD Rx SHD ASTM RX SD Rx SHD 1 3 3 4 100 % 100 % 75 % 2 3 3 4,5 100 % 100 % 66 % 3 3 3,5 6 100 % 86 % 50 % 4 3 4,5 6,5 100 % 66 % 46 % 6 3,1 5 7,25 100 % 62 % 42 % 8 3,1 6,25 10 100 % 50% 31 % 10 3,1 6,75 11 100 % 46 % 28 % This diagram shows at 10 i.e. the liner thickness acc. To ASTM is 3,1 mm; the Resistoflex standard liner is 6,75mm and the Resistoflex SHD liner has a thickness of 11mm. Looking at the permeation the permeation at the Resistoflex standard liner is only 46% compared to the ASTM thickness liner and the Resistoflex SHD liner is only 28% compared to the ASTM thickness liner.
