Identify Topic: plan out important topics you want your students to understand. Specify Learning Objectives: plan out clear learning objectives. They will guide your thinking when selecting examples. Select Examples and Nonexamples: This is a vital part of the model. Pick examples that best illustrate the characteristics of your concepts. Also select non-examples to show students what are not characteristics Sequence examples and nonexamples: plan out how you are going to arrange the examples. They need to be arranged so students have as much opportunity for practice as possible.

Introduction: first introduce the lesson and explain the activities to the students. Examples and hypothesizing: Then examples and non-examples are given. The analysis cycle: Then have the students analyze the existing hypothesis to see if they still have the same view. It is important to not give away your judgment. Closure and application

Assessment is done to see if the students understood the concepts taught and to see if the students were able to think critically. Assessment can be done by having the students define, identify, or create unique examples of the concepts. Students can also be assessed by having the students analyze hypotheses as they are presented with additional example.

Students will find this concept motivating if it is presented to them in the form of playing a guessing game against their teacher. This way they are unknowingly learning about the scientific method. Groupwork can be included to get all the students involved, which will lead to an increase in student motivation and interest. There are also various ways that this model can be modified, such as increasing the emphasis on hypothesis testing and critical thinking by giving students the entire list of examples and nonexamples at once (CA II) or by letting students give their own examples to test the hypothesis instead of the teacher providing the examples (CA III).

So what? What is important to understand about this?

The Concept Attainment Model is a teaching strategy designed to help students deepen their understanding on concepts while allowing the opportunity for students to think critically.
