February 24, 2014 Abigail Quigley McCarthy Center for Women, It is with the utmost sincerity that I nominate

ASL & Interpreting Department Senior Nicollette Mosbeck for the Abigail Quigley McCarthy Center for Women Student Leadership Award. I have had the opportunity to work alongside Ms. Mosbeck both on campus and out in the community, and am always impressed with her enthusiasm, commitment, and positive approach to challenges. As one of the captains for the Wildcats Hockey team, she has expertly balanced her responsibilities to her team, to her school work, and to the interpreting and Deaf communities. I have had the fortune to work with Ms. Mosbeck, as an internship host, interpreting in a religious setting. Nicki arrives each Sunday she is available with a bright smile and a willingness to challenge herself in her interpreting work. She readily takes on new challenges, such as interpreting difficult sermons or religious music on her own, and is brimming with excitement to discuss how to improve her work when she is done. Ms. Mosbeck shows great commitment to her work and the field of interpreting by asking in-depth and thoughtful questions and dialoguing about her process as she learns more about who she is as an interpreter. I am looking forward to having her as a colleague when she graduates this Spring. Whenever I see Nicki walking down the hall of the ASL & Interpreting Department, she has a positive aura that inspires others, and she goes out of her way to let people know she appreciates them. More than once, she has stopped by my office to tell me how glad she is to see me, and lets me know that my work is respected and valued. This creates for me, as well as others, an affirmative environment in which to grow and flourish. Furthermore, it is her compelling optimistic attitude that others take with them outside of the St. Catherine community and spread generously. Ms. Mosbeck knows who she is and where she is going, and has since childhood committed herself to becoming an American Sign Language/English Interpreter because of former Deaf hockey teammates. She aspires in her career to interpret for hockey players, effectively synthesizing her expertise in interpreting and hockey. As she has been highlighted as a premier player for the Wildcats, Nicki has never lost sight of her commitment to the Deaf community. When interviewed as the M.I.A.C. Friday Feature on January 24, 2014, Nicki incorporated a video using ASL, so that her highlight would be accessible to Deaf faculty and community members. It is with these considerations in mind that I strongly recommend Nicollette Mosbeck for the Abigail Quigley McCarthy Center for Women Student Leadership Award. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions regarding my nomination. Thank you for your time and consideration,
