I am interested in the community o drug cartels! but do not get me wrong I ne"er want to get mi#ed up with any o these guys$ I am interested because I li"e in a closed in world! I do not really ha"e to worry about people trying to %ill me! and what people ha"e to deal with in the world o cartels ascinates me$ I am curious to ind out how much my li e di ers rom members o the cartel! rom the bottom &such as the oot soldiers' to the top &drug lord'$ Also! how much do personalities/identities change as you go through the di erent le"els o the command chain$ I plan to learn what the cartels do to people who (oin and how it changes their identity! or i they were raised this way! what is their identity and how do the older members in luence them$ )hat I ha"e learned so ar is it about building a relationship or them! they must trust in each other and they e#pect loyalty because i you don pro"ide them with that they will not hesitate to %ill you$ *rust and loyalty is %ey! law en orcers are always trying to shut cartels down$ *his community does not want one person to bring them down so they will not hesitate to %ill$ +o one in the cartels are indispensable! you must wor% hard to %eep your place because at any time you can be replaced$ I you do not cooperate they %ill you! you are trapped! and you must understand this i you want to be a part o the big buc%s they produce$ Methods: As I mentioned be ore I do not want to get mi#ed up with any part o a cartel so I do not plan on setting up an inter"iew with any members &I would be able to ind one anyway'$ I am sure I will be able to ind a substantial amount o inter"iews through a bit o research on the internet and I ha"e already ound an episode on the *, series anglandabout a speci ic cartel called -os .etas$ *he episode has inter"iews with some o the members o that particular cartel that I belie"e will be use ul$ /ut i that is not reliable! there are also inter"iews online with inmates about cartel li e that will be help ul! and I can do some more research to see i there are any autobiographies on this sub(ect$ Questions: 0ow do identities change through the di erent le"els o command1 Are these people proud to be a part o this community1 Do they e#ploit their success to many people1 Do they only share their success with a ew people to a"oid being caught1 Are people more worried about the police or their ellow cartel members1 I members ha"e a amily! how do they act in ront o them "s the cartel1 0ow does it a ect the amily to %now there is a cartel member among them1 Do they consider themsel"es to be criminals or are they (ust doing their (ob1 0ow stress ul is this line o wor%1 Do the cartel members appreciate the money more or the amily! brotherhood and relationships they build1 )hat do people ha"e to do to earn respect1 2ain positions1 /e an nmember1
