Governor Robert J. Bentley Governor of Alabama 600 Dexter Ave. Montgomery, AL 36130 Subject: STATE FIRE MARSHAL MAY BE LEGALLY LIABLE FOR FIRE DEATHS Dear Governor Bentley: I am enclosing a copy of a letter to your state fire marshal. I have provided confirmation that the ionization type so-called smoke detector that he fire marshal has approved and helped to sell is defective and has caused the deaths of thousands of children. At present two deaths of children are being litigated. The question is, to what degree is the fire marshal responsible for these deaths. The documents I submitted to the fire marshal indicates it is a lot. However, that is for the courts to decide. Regardless of the results of the present legal action it would be wise and prudent for all fire officials in Alabama to provide full disclosure regarding the limited detection capabilities of the ionization device. Incidentally, one suit against a smoke detector manufacturer resulted in a 50 million dollar award although it was reduced upon appeal. The point is, however, a jury will take a very negative view of any fire officials who is involved in a fraud which results in dead and/or horribly injured children. Please consider this to be a notification by a professional and licensed engineer that the type of smoke detector installed in most homes in Alabama are defective and have already caused probably 70 thousand fire deaths within the U.S. alone. The device isa proven killer of children and the evidence to confirm this is extensive. Sincerely.

Richard M. Patton
