1. What was the area of focus today during the lesson? What activities related to the area of focus were included in the lesson today? Due to an afternoon skating party, early lunch and last day for a classmate, the reading lesson was neglected for an authentic writing opportunity and then a students was allowed to read their library book aloud the rest of the class. They were asked to write a letter to a classmate who is moving to another school. 2. What went well with the instruction? What did students learn? Students focused on using the word wall and sounding out words during the writing lesson. During the student read aloud, the focus was on prosody and the mechanics of reading out loud. (showing pictures, holding the book, holding pages while show the book to classmates) 3. Explain a growth moment for yourself where you realized, learned, or confirmed something from today dealing with student achievement in the area of reading. (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, before/during/after reading Today confirmed that I really need to think through my lessons very carefully and not assume anything. The student reading aloud read very well, but lacked the mechanics of holding open a large book, holding a book that isnt placed on a table and holding back pages to show other students the pages when turning the book around. 4. Describe a moment when a student grasped an idea/concept-that got it! kind of moment. How was the teacher able to facilitate this experience? Explain the situation. The got it moment for today was the student self-prompting to remember to show the pictures to classmates. After one or two teacher prompts the student remembered and worked very hard to make sure everyone saw all of the pictures.
