Instrument ranges
The following table lists ranges for each Garritan Instruments for Finale (GIFF) instrument included with Finale. Pitches notated outside of an instruments range will not sound if GIFF is selected as the Playback device. The instruments are organized by the category in which they appear in the ARIA Player, not the Finale instrument categories found in the Setup Wizard and ScoreManager. Ranges are stated as they appear in the ARIA Player (MIDI Note 60=C3 instead of the standard C4). Bold type indicates an instrument new to the Finale 2014 GIFF library. See also Choosing the appropriate Garritan sound (Player vs. Solo instruments).

Keyswitches
Note: An expression intended for use with Human Playback should not include a playback definition - Human Playback looks for the text only. Make sure Type is set to None under the Playback tab of the Expression Designer dialog box. Also, Note-Attached expressions are recommended for keyswitch expressions.
Any instrument with "KS" in its name (as shown in the ScoreManager or ARIA Player) includes alternate sounds relating to a particular performance technique for that instrument. For example, all "KS" string instruments can play in an arco (bowed), pizzicato (plucked), or tremolo (in rapid succession) style. When using Human Playback, text expressions or Smart Shapes can be added to "trigger" these keyswitches as part of Human Playbacks interpretation. Alternatively, you can invoke a keyswitch manually see Adding keyswitches as expressions. The following are a list of triggers that can be used to change the playback sound of any GIFF instrument that supports keyswitches. Note that keyswitches reside in the lowest octave for all instruments, well below the range of the instrument (see MIDI Note to Pitch Table for equivalents).
