World Cultures and Geography II: The Eastern Hemisphere SYLLABUS 2013 2014 Mr.

Welcome to 7th Grade World Cultures and geography class! I am looking forward to a very fun and productive school year and am sure that you are too. I have found that if everyone knows what to expect, then the year will run smoothly. Although my expectations are high, there is not a doubt in my mind that each and every one of you can be successful. I expect excellent work from you and full compliance with all rules and guidelines outlined in the Prince Georges County Code of Student Conduct, and in particular the following procedures. Course Description: World Cultures and Geography II: The Eastern Hemisphere World Cultures and Geography is a two year course in Prince Georges County Public Schools that is covered in the Sixth and Seventh grades. The Western Hemisphere is covered in the sixth grade, while the Eastern Hemisphere is covered in seventh grade. Paper Writing Utensils (pen or pencil is acceptable) The Previous Nights Assignment(s) Course Breakdown: Grading Policy: All grades will be posted and kept current threw PGCPS online grading system, SCHOOLMAX. Student/Parent passwords and access codes will be given via the guidance department. Upcoming assignments, due dates, and special announcements may be posted on our class website http://sites.google.com/a/pgcps.org/mr-pollard-world-cultures/ Unit One: Introduction to World Cultures Unit Two: Southwest Asia Unit Three: Africa Unit Four: Southeast and East Asia Unit Five: Europe and Russia Unit Six: Australia

The following factors will be used to determine grades:

Assessments (Test, Quizzes and Projects)..50% Class work ..25% Homework .25% Final averages will be calculated in accordance with the Prince Georges County Board of Education guidelines. The grading scale will be as follows: A = Excellent Performance 100 90% B = Above Average Performance 89 80% C = Average Performance 79 70% D = Below Average Performance/Not Acceptable 69 60% E = Failure 59 0% Important Policies: 1. Students MUST be in his/her seat quietly working when the beginning bell rings. You should immediately copy that nights homework assignment down, followed by the daily objective. Then begin your warm-up. All these tasks can be completed on notebook 2. No food or drink is allowed in the classroom at anytime, expect for a bottle of water. Please restrict all other items to the lunchroom. No student will be permitted to leave the classroom for a drink of water bring a water bottle. 3. There will be no bathroom passes during the 1st and last 10 minutes of each period. 4. It is YOUR responsibility to speak to me about work missed because of an absence; only work missed during an EXCUSED absence will be accepted (a yellow office note MUST be presented for the make-up work). This should be done BEFORE class the FIRST day of your return. Make-up tests MUST be taken immediately upon your return to school. 5. Personal Textbooks should be left at home for your use and DO NOT need to be brought to class. A class set of textbooks will be in the classroom at all times. However, you are responsible for returning the assigned book (numbers are recorded) to me at the end of the year. A damage fee may be assessed for excessive wear and tear or defacing. You will be charged for a lost/stolen book. 6. Work will be considered late if it is not completed at the start of class. If work is not completed on time it will be deducted %50. 7. Consequences will be enforced for breaking the rules, including verbal warnings, a student teacher conference, a parent teacher conference, and/or a PS-74.
