In looking at the social studies curriculum, I would like to add some standards to the fifth grade economic strand

which includes personal budgeting. There could be background information about checks, statements, and basic banking accounts. Today, students are becoming consumers at a much younger age. I believe students would benefit from understanding the importance of personal budgeting, saving, and consequences of overspending.
