STANDARD: (PA Common Core): 4.4.1.C: Describe the life cycles of different plants and animals in a terrestrial habitat.
I. Performance Objectives (Learning Outcomes) The 1st grade students will learn about different animals that live on a farm, and their life cycles. Instructional Materials - KWL worksheet - Babies/Adult worksheet - PowerPoint - Paper - Paint - Sharpies

Key Vocabulary/content Animal Life-cycles: The process animals go through from birth on. C. Big Idea o IV. Implementation A. Introduction 1. What is your favorite farm animal? 2. Do you know what the animal is called when it is a baby and when it is an adult? 3. Do you know where that animal lives? 4. Teacher will read, Big Red Barn but Margaret Wise Brown What are the life cycles of farm animals?

B. Development 1.) Teacher will give the students a KWL chart to determine students prior knowledge, find out their questions, and what they learned about the unit. 2.) The students will fill out what they know and what they would like to learn during this

lesson. 3.) The teacher will ask the students what their favorite farm animal is and the teacher will chart it in the front of the classroom. The teacher will then tell the class that even though we only may think the farm animals have one name, most of the animals are called something different when they are babies, than when they are adults! The teacher will then show the students the powerpoint on the different farm animals, and what they start out as, and what they grow up to be. The students will then complete a farm animal match up, where they will have to match up the word of the baby animal to the picture of the adult animal. (attached)

The students will then make a life cycle of a chicken booklet using their fingerprints. Use a strip of colored paper, about 2" x 10". Use the children's fingerprints to make white eggs in the first three spaces, then add a pinky dot to the top of the third egg for the little chick hatching out. The fourth picture is just one yellow fingerprint chick. Then fold it up to be their own chicken life cycle book.

Closure 1.) Have the class now fill out the L (What they have learned) section of their KWL chart 2.) As a class, we will go over what was learned.

D. Accommodations / Differentiation 1) To accommodate, for K.L with a learning disability, I will have all of her notes printed so she can have them assessable at all times E.
