Shianna Brown Lesson Date: 4/6/14 Lesson Plan and time: Cumulative Review Time: 1:15pm Number of students:

1 (student below grade average) Supplies needed: Pencils, White board, white board marker, note card Lesson Objective: The student will be able to from contractions and use them in sentences. Standard Addressed: 3.3 Know and apply grade level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Anticipatory Set: I will create a little story about the boy who didnt know contractions. After the story the students will receive a notecard and the student will have to form two- three contractions. If the student doesnt understand how to form contractions from my story I will show them examples. I will ask the student to tell me the definition of contractions. If this student knows the definition of contractions then we can skip over what the contractions means part and move on to why we form contractions and how they are formed. Teaching/instructional process: I will use a white board and makers to explain what contractions are and how they should be used. I will have the student read me both base words and then tell me which way the contraction should be spelt. I will have the student write which one they think would be the best and the student and I will write a sentence together using the contraction that the student found worked. Guided Practice: The student will receive two note cards and the student will have to form the contraction correctly. First time the student will have to try it by his/her self just so I can see if the student gets the concept, then if they need help I will help them.

Closure: For the closure we will have talk out a contraction worksheet together. If the student understands the information then they can go on to independent practice, Independent Practice: Students will receive a worksheet to review what we discussed together as a class. Once they complete the worksheet they will turn it in and itll be graded. We will complete this worksheet together. Reflection: A student who is below average needs to have one on one time with the teacher. Its important as a teacher to realize this but its hard to find the time to have the one on one time with the students who need your help. Its important to see if the student understands the concept of what is trying to be learned. If the student understands the concept then you can skip over that part of the lesson and get down to business. The student needs to understand that you are willing to help them no matter what the cost. So if that means reading them the whole test just so they can fully understand, then do it! Teachers also need to be reasonable and understand that the student isnt choosing to be below average. Sometimes it can be frustrating but the reward after the student catches up with the class is well worth it!
