8 MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT EMS


MYTH
EMS is a monstertruck

TRUTH
The maximum length of an EMS is 25.25 m. Research conducted by the Dutch Ministry of Transport shows that motorists dont even notice the difference between an EMS and a regular truck combination.

MYTH
EMS weighs up to 90 ton

TRUTH
The maximum weight is limited to 60 ton. In Germany it is even limited to 40 ton.

MYTH
EMS ruins roads

TRUTH
Scientific studies show that an EMS has no negative impact on road infrastructure and even reduces tear and wear.

MYTH
EMS is allowed everywhere, anytime, anyplace

TRUTH
An EMS is only allowed on motorways, main roads and industrial areas, never in urban areas, villages, 30 km zones, near schools etc. A special permit from road authorities is generally required.

MYTH
EMS endangers the environment

TRUTH
An EMS contributes to a better environment. Two EMS-configurations replace three regular trucks, resulting in 33% less fuel consumption and CO2-emissions.

EMS endangers road safety

TRUTH
Technical devices for the vehicle plus training devices for the driver enhance road safety.

EMS leads to a reverse modal shift

TRUTH
Studies show that an EMS has no negative impact on rail and water transport. Most EMS cargo is not even rail or water oriented. And besides, the foreseen growth in trade and transport require a maximum use of all modes of transport.

EMS conquers Europe

TRUTH
It is not Brussels but EU member states which decide on the use of an EMS on their territory. Cross border transport is only allowed between countries which agree upon the use of an EMS.

EMS is already a success in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands and Germany.
