    Before beginning a homam ritual, one should mentally acknowledge Mother Earth, Lord Ganesha, their favorite deity, parents, rishis of their clan, and all rishis and gurus. One should then recite a verse asking for cooperation from the gods for the homam, requesting that the sacrificial offerings be accepted and blessings granted so the ritual can be successfully completed with full faith and vigor.

    Before starting the homam, think in your mind of Mother Earth who is bearing you, Lord Ganesha who removes obstacles , your ishta devta (favourite deity), your parents , the rishis of your gothra ( if you know them), all the rishis and all your gurus. Then say the following , while mentally requesting all te gods to co-operate with your homam.

    narmso paasadya ) | mitram | devam| mitra dheyam no astu |

    Anuradhan havisa vardha yantah| shatam jivema shardah savirah | ]
