Lesson # in unit:

Topic: Graphs, Ordered Pairs, Reflection/Translation

Lesson Objective and Assessment of the objective

By the end of the session, student will be able to: Identify and graph ordered pairs of positive numbers and plot, AND Draw the translation and reflection of shapes. Students ability will be assessed along the way, and student will use an exit slip to identify confusing/difficult parts of the lesson that we can review at our next session. Supporting Diverse Learners The KWL will allow me to see where the student is in regards to the objective and the lesson is easily adaptable for more difficulty or more simplicity depending on what is indicated in the KWL activity

Strategies/Activities Selected:

Adapted KWL, Read Aloud, Graphing Activity using Indianapolis Colts playbook (includes plotting points, identifying coordinates, and translating/rotating graphs), & Exit Slip

Lesson Agenda Warm up: How will you support students in accessing prior knowledge, personal, real world and/or cultural connections? To cultivate relevance, we will begin by reading an article about how mathematicians use math to help them predict winners of the gamesbrings relevance and real world context to the problem Student will first fill out adjusted KWL charts, which will allow student to access previous knowledge about graphing/plotting, football, as well as anticipate how we might connect the two.

Transitioning and Stating Objectives: The final part of the KWL activity has student anticipate how graphing and football might relate.

Transition to Instruction & Guided Practice: What support strategies will you use to scaffold students learning so they meet or exceed targeted? I found the Indianapolis Colts playbook to use for reference when graphing. We will look through the playbook and I will pick out plays and he can choose plays to graph. I will have plays graphed first and he will have to identity the coordinates of the players. Next, I will have players coordinates and he will have to graph the players himself. We will then practice translating and rotating coordinates.

Transition to Independent Practice and Conferencing: Each of us will make our dream play or formation and will draw it on the XY plane. We will switch and have the other write out the coordinates of each player and check each others! Transition to Wrap up/Closing: How will you engage students in self-assessment and/or reflection on key concepts? Exit Slip: One thing you liked, one thing you learned, one thing that is still confusing

Daily Assessment How do you know your students met your lesson objective(s) and to what extent? knowledge comprehension application analysis synthesis evaluation
