The Oceans and Weather By: Peter J. Webster and Judith A.

Curry
Weather is important and a lot of people depend on the prediction of weather so that they can do the things they need to do People are becoming more aware of El Nino The ocean and the atmosphere share task of exporting heat from equatorial regions to the poles Some of the heat is in the form of warm currents Storms have central powers, but they can be little as 960 millibars Ocean can generate intense storms at lower latitudes When the ocean-surface temperature exceeds 27 degrees Celsius, then hurricanes will be formed Eye of the storm = low-pressure void Direct heating from the ocean surface would offset storms El Nino can cause flooding and landslides La Nina = surface waters gets pushed by westward-directed trade winds toward Indonesia La Nina and El Nino affects people in many ways including, economically Research have been done to improve understanding of the ocean so weather can be predicted.

The ocean and the weather have a relationship with each other. Some phenomenon that can prove of that are El Nino and La Nina. During El Nino, the warm surface water would flow toward South America, and away from Indonesia. There will be excessive amount of storms in the coast of South America, but in Indonesia, there will be drought. Drought in Indonesia can affect the economy in that country and eventually become a problem worldwide. La Nina is the opposite of El Nino because in this situation, warm water is actually flowing toward Indonesia instead of away from it, like El Nino. But this can cause things like flooding, and landslides in other places. As technology improves, the understanding of the ocean can also be improved, which will be beneficial to many people that are usually affected by El Nino and La Nina. I think that people should be more concern about this. Even though it does not affect everyone physically, but this is still an important topic. I think there should be more research in inventing new technologies that could help normal people get a better understanding of the ocean and its relationship with the temperature. Honestly, I think that temperature is weird and it can be unpredictable at times, but perhaps one day people will be able to fully understand it and predict the future with those knowledge.

So what? El Nino is affecting farmers in countries that are affected by this phenomenon. Many people depend on those farmers because they are the ones that provide the food for those people.

Says who? Peter J. Webster and Judith A. Curry

What if? What if people were able to get a better understanding of the ocean? Then they would get a better understand of temperature and climate changes.

This reminds me of Gypsies because they predict the future using their crystal globes, while we are using technologies to predict the temperature.
