Lesson Objective: I can list two things which enhance the idea that Robert Peary visited the North Pole at the end of his exploration based on various secondary sources. Lesson Goal: For students to be able to state an opinion about the legitimacy of Robert Peary and his exploration toward the North Pole after analyzing a variety of texts. Essential Question (Why is this important): Did Robert Peary legitimately reach the North Pole? Based on your answer to that question, does this change the significance of Robert Peary as an explorer? -This lesson is designed for students to analyze text and form opinions so that they know not to believe everything they read and to question notions and challenge ideas. It is also designed for students to understand that an argument or opinion must be supported with factual evidence. End: -Preview the final cumulative assessment where students will be writing and making an argument for their most intriguing explorers.
