Lesson Plan: Buzz Aldrin CCSS: 9-10.

6-Compare the point of view of two or more authors for how they treat the same or similar topics, including which details they include and emphasize in their respective accounts. CCSS: 9-10. 8-Assess the extent to which the reasoning and evidence in a text support the author's claims. Lesson Objective: I can identify Buzz Aldrin given a picture and a list of his accompaniments such as landing on the moon in 1969. Lesson Objective: I can label his role of accompanying Niel Armstrong on Apallo 11s trip to the moon. Lesson Goal: For students to be able to compare and contrast the difference between Buzz Aldrin and other explorers which we have discussed in class? Essential Question (Why is this important): What does Buzz Aldrin do, if anything, that qualifies him as a world explorer? Agenda: -AS -space.com article -Discussion -Ven Diagram -Preview Next day Beginning: -AS: Think of the scariest thing you have ever done in your life and share it with a partner. -Is it as scary as traveling in space and taking a trip to the moon. -Class vote: Would you go to the moon if you could? Yes or no Middle: -Read article about Buzz Aldrins experience in traveling to the moon and being one of the first individuals to step foot on the moon -Students should read this article on their own and annotate it independently. -Questions for students to consider when reading: 1. Why did Buzz want to become an astronaut and travel to the moon? 2. What did Buzz struggle with in his personal life and how might this effect his desire or motivation to pursue his hopes and dreams. 3. How has Buzzs life been different since his trip to the moon? 4. What are the main differences and similarities between Buzz and other world explores we have discussed in previous classes? -Students will record notes and answers in their online notes. -Discussion about the article and questions they answered.

-Ven Diagram: Students will make a Ven Diagram with a partner of two explorers we have studied to this point in the unit and write down the similarities and differences between the two. -They will use their notes online to help remember past class periods.
