Nursing Philosophy: The Nurse-Client Relationship Model Kayla Vadney 00787819

NURSING PHILOSOPHY Content Outline I. Artistic Expression I chose a metaphorical diagram because it was the best way to accurately interrelate all of my values and illustrate the way all of the components seamlessly intertwine and depend on one another. The use of PowerPoint was to ensure the entire class could see clearly and in detail the visual representation of my philosophy. II. Definitions a. Nursing: Assisting the client through nurse-client teamwork in achieving optimum health for and as defined by the patient. b. Person: The client as an individual.

c. Environment: External environment; the nurse as perceived by the client. d. Health: State in which the client feels balanced and has achieve happiness. III. Explanation of Artwork a. Nurse figure i. Depicts the nurse-client relationship by holding hands with the client. ii. Demonstrates the necessity of teamwork to achieve client health. b. Client figure i. There is only one figure to depict the client as an individual. ii. Treating each client as a unique individual is imperative. c. Stairs as a whole

NURSING PHILOSOPHY i. Symbolize taking the necessary steps to achieve optimum client health. ii. Importance of continuing higher education. Without it, nurses cannot help clients reach the top of the stairs. d. Each step of the stairs

i. Illustrate the necessary steps nurses must take to assist the client in achieving optimum health. These are included under Qualities of Practice. IV. Qualities of Practice a. Individualized patient-centered care b. Competent, knowledgeable nurses c. Patience with the client d. Dedication to the client V. Incorporation of Nursing Theory a. Hildegard Peplaus Theory of Interpersonal Relations emphasizes the need for nurse-client teamwork, rather than passive care. b. The referenced article tested this theory, finding that a positive nurseclient relationship better facilitates health and wellness. VI. Goals for Nursing Practice a. To achieve the necessary qualities of practice as previously mentioned. b. More participating in continuing education. VII. Current and Future Challenges in Nursing a. Current Challenges

NURSING PHILOSOPHY i. Some nurses tend to treat the nurse-client interaction as a routine event. b. Future Potential Challenges

i. Nurses may confuse a good nurse-client relationship with initiating a friendship.
