Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection

NAEYC Standard: STANDARD SIX: BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL Candidates prepared in early childhood education programs identify and conduct themselves as members of the early childhood profession. They know and use ethical guidelines and other professional standards related to the early childhood practice. They are continuous, collaborative learners who demonstrate knowledgeable, reflective and critical perspectives on their work, making informed decisions that integrate knowledge from a variety of sources. They are informed advocates for a sound educational practices and policies. Brief Description of Evidence: My evidence is my Technical Certificate in Early Childhood Education. I received this in September 2013 after completing a total of 33 credit hours in the early childhood education field. I have received this certificate as a mile stone during my process to continue my education and work towards my Associates degree of Applied Sciences in Early Childhood Education. Analysis of What I Learned: Throughout taking the Early Childhood courses I gained knowledge, experience and educational background on the field. In my process of taking classes to work towards this award I work with a number of young children, families, peers, and early childhood teachers. I met people in my felid and collaborated with them throughout class work and group projects. By connecting with my teachers and classmates I learned about the different types of early childhood programs they were currently in involved in or had knowledge of from past and present experiences. I learned about theorists and how their work applies to early childhood. Early Childhood has changed over many years from past to present time however the past created the foundation for how we see young childrens learning today. I continue to gain experience with seeing how children respond to lessons, materials, and the environment they in and provided. In completion of my early childhood courses I will be receiving my associate degree in May. I have a job in the field and will continue my work with the knowledge I have gained and abilities to search for more information as needed. How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard: This artifact demonstrates my competency in my developed and continuous knowledge while becoming a professional with the skills and education I have gained. I have connected with other professionals and continue to attend meetings, trainings, and conferences to stay updated on changes and opportunities in the early childhood education field.
