Standard 4 Standard 4 is an important NAEYC standard because it conveys appropriate strategies for teachers to positively support a childs development

and learning. This standard is specifically about knowing, understanding, and utilizing effective tools for early education to create an encouraging classroom environment. These strategies include, Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP), recognizing each childs learning style, modeling positive behaviors, and using a broad range of instruction/teaching techniques. It also advocates the use of developmentally appropriate techniques to bond with both the children and their families, while motivating teachers to reflect on their own instructional strategies. I selected a Developmentally Appropriate flyer that I made while taking CHD 120: Introduction to Early Childhood Education, to reveal that I understand Standard 4. This artifact displays one of the many teaching strategies that blend to create a healthy, supportive, and challenging classroom. This artifact is a device that informs parents of DAP tools and reveals how teachers can successfully employ these tactics with their students. It highlights effective DAP teaching strategies, such as, do no harm to children and planning a curriculum that achieves important goals for each child. During CHD 120, I discovered what teaching strategies were most effective within the classroom, such as guiding behavior and catering to each childs learning style so they may succeed in a healthy learning environment. I also learned that each childs developmental level, ability, and interests should be considered when creating activities, lesson plans, and curriculums in the classroom. Furthermore, I learned how to properly implement DAP, along with other teaching strategies, to create a caring community for learners that supports the achievement of goals. In the future, I will use effective teaching strategies such as, modeling behaviors and asking open-ending questions to generate a thriving classroom. I am excited to create music, art, and movement activities/programs to support the healthy development of each child, while modeling attitudes and productive behaviors. I plan to use various teaching/learning approaches, including fostering oral language and using both indoor and outdoor environments. I will integrate math and science concepts into music, movement, and arts activities by teaching the relationship between rhythm and patterning, as well as, simulating the process of photosynethesis through dance. I hope to build supportive relationships with parents and families through open communication and cooperation to ensure the success of each child in the classroom. Most of all I plan to inspire children to be creative individuals.
