Chapter 1 Vowels

These letters are vowels, and the song about it is : A, E, I, O, U... A, E, I, O, U A, E, I, O ,U and sometimes Y and W.

In English there are 5 vowels: Aa, Ee, Ii, Oo, and, Uu. Vowels can be long or short. The words that have these letters are cat /A/, bed /E/, spin /I/, octopus /O/, and up /U/. I am writing about vowels, in Finnish there are letters that are had periods on top of the letter and O what have the same dots too.

Chapter 2 Vowel Teams

Vowel teams are two vowels that make one sound. For example, the vowel team ea makes the sound long e (||).There are 18 vowel teams. They help us read syllables with sounds like (|ow|) in about. The syllables with vowel teams are marked with a d underneath because theyre double vowel. We read the book Its Spring where the vowel teams ou and ow make the sound |ow|, but sometimes ow makes the sound long o(||) like snow.

Chapter 3 Syllables
There are six syllables
5

in English. They are helpful because they help us to read and write. The first syllable is the closed syllable. Sometimes the double syllable can also be short. The word cat is a closed syllable because the one vowel is short, and it has a consonant on the end. More examples include kick, bed, and hot. The next syllable is the vowel consonant-e syllable. The word cake is a v-e syllable because the vowel is long with the e at the end, but you dont read e because e is silent. But there are some exceptions like give that have a short i or others that end in the suffix -ive. Another syllable is the consonant le syllable. The word puzzle is -le. The last syllable in the word puzzle is le. More examples are example, bottle, possible, variable, and syllable. Exceptions like animal and castle are hard to spell.

The next syllable is the r-controlled syllable. Burn is an r-controlled syllable because we read ur like er. More examples are bird, verb, warm, ork, arm, art, and for example two syllable word is armor. Each vowel can be rcontrolled, so take some time to look for r-controlled words.

The next syllable is the D syllable. Boat is a D syllable because the vowels are double and vowels are long. It is a double syllable because there are two vowels together and they are open. More examples are beach, variable, and toe. The next syllable is open syllable. The word me is an open syllable because vowel is long. It has one scoop. lt has consonant on the end. It has one vowel, and it is long without the e on the end.

Chapter 4 New Vocabulary

In grade three we learned much vocabulary.. First we learned basic English keywords. For example, words like nouns, pronouns, sounds, suffixes, adjectives, vowels, compound, words,
7

and syllables types. The next vocabulary is the Learner Profiles. The first word is Knowledgeable, Reflective, Inquirer, Balanced,, Thinker, Communicator, Principled,, Open Minded,, Risk- Taker , and the last one is Respect. And then I have some math words the first one is line segment, line, and ray.. he last vocabulary is about Units of Inquiry words. The last words are habitat, carnivore ecosystem, and herbivore,
Here is a picture of a herbivore.

Chapter 5 Text Features

A text feature is all of the things in the book that help the readers understand the text. Examples are Headings, Index, Table of Contents, Glossary, Pictures, and bold Words. One day we read a book named Fun In The Garden, and we wanted to know what is a herb bed. First, I looked in the Table of Contents and I saw look in page 8 so I did that. After that I looked in the Index, and it showed look in page 8-11 so I looked in those pages. I understood that the Index has more details than the Table of Contents. I like text features because they help everyone in language and reading! Text features are fun in books! Remember you always can use text features in nonfiction books, and do not be shy . If someone says can you please fix my computer, and if she or he asks you how you did it that fast say I used the index in a
8

book. Then she or he will ask what is an index, and I have to hurry. I have a big book plus there are so many pages that I can't find the page I want. Then you can ask what page do you need. He or she will say Geometry page about lines. You can say ok go to the Index or Table of Contents. Then she or he will look in the Index, and they will find their page what they needed!

Chapter 6 Fun moments

9

My class and I have had many fun moments, but not always so poor Mrs. Schubert. We have fun moments everyday.. Like in September just at the beginning of the year our class made goals. It was a fun moment because at this time we were helping each other. We were definitely laughing! In art we were laughing when looking at each others selfportraits. Because Whoa! In media tech we had 9,987,765 fun moments because every time Mr. Olive showed us many different movies. One time he showed us a film on what the future will look like. One week ago in our unit of inquiry class we were making a presentation about our animals. We were picking an animal that is interesting to us, making groups by what habitat our animal has, and then we were presenting it. It was very fun. FUN IS REALLY IMPORTANT FOR LEARNING !
