Dylan Gourley Dennis Persin Gateway High School Life Support

7 February 2014 9-12

4 Students

Mr. Persin has a very small life support class that he helps out with. The students have a varied level of disabilities, but are almost all high functioning. He shows the students some basic drumming patterns with drumsticks on carpet squares on a table, and they follow his patterns. They drum on the squares for about ten minutes, and as the time goes the difficulty of the patterns increases. This class is in no way a traditional classroom, so the observation prompt does not quite fit. However, each student receives adequate individual attention, because there are three aids present with Mr. Persin. Each student has a teacher to stand across from them to help them with their drumming. At the very end of the period, he asks one student trivia about wrestling, something the student shows great interest in. They both have extensive knowledge of wrestling, so the student has a good time answering his questions, and is prompted to speak when he would spend the rest of the period drumming silently.
