Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection InTASC Standard: Standard #5: Application of Content The teacher understands how

to connect concepts and use differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem solving related to authentic local and global issues. Brief Description of Evidence: Myself along with a partner created and implemented a lesson plan. In the lesson plan, the students had the opportunity to critically think, collaborate, and creatively express themselves. The lesson plan was designed for students to connect a quote to their lives then be able to represent it by a drawing. In the lesson plan we made a way for students to think about being a good citizen, how they could be brave, and helpful to others. Along with those topics, we also had the students lean about seeds and trees. Analysis of What I Learned: After creating an implementing the lesson plan, I realized the lesson plan can only go so far and then you have to think on your feet. For example, in my lesson plan, I did not anticipate for certain questions, students not understanding after explaining in a variety of ways, or students who just do not want to do it. Putting dialog in the lesson plan did help, but when actually doing a lesson, it will not be as clear-cut as the plan calls for. How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the InTASC Standard: Creating and implementing this lesson demonstrated my competence by understanding how to connect concepts to students using different perspectives. In our lesson, the students have the opportunity to critically think about a quote, apply it to their own lives, and creatively express the meaning of the particular quote. Implementing this lesson shows I have the experience to apply concepts to students.
