WHAT IS JACK?
A jack is mechanical device used to lift heavy loads or apply great forces. Jacks employ a screw thread or hydraulic cylinder to apply very high linear forces.

How does a hydraulic jack work?

Hydraulic jacks and many other technological advancements work on the basis of Pascal's Principle. Pascal's law or Pascal's principle states that "pressure exerted anywhere in a confined fluid is transmitted equally in all directions throughout the fluid.
The pressure can be calculated with the formula:
p = pressure (psi) F = force (pound) A = area (square inch)

An enclosed fluid under pressure exerts that pressure throughout its volume and against any surface containing it. That's called 'Pascal's Principle', and allows a hydraulic lift to generate large amounts of FORCE from the application of a small FORCE.

A hydraulic jack uses a fluid, which is incompressible, that is forced into a cylinder by a pump plunger. Oil is used since it is self lubricating and stable. When the plunger pulls back, it draws oil out of the reservoir through a suction check valve into the pump chamber. When the plunger moves forward, it pushes the oil through a discharge check valve into the cylinder. The suction valve ball is within the chamber and opens with each draw of the plunger. The discharge valve ball is outside the chamber and opens when the oil is pushed into the cylinder. At this point the suction ball within the chamber is forced shut and oil pressure builds in the cylinder.

When the man jumps on the small piston, he induces a pressure in the system. This pressure also works on the large piston: because of the large area of this piston, the force induced by the pressure is capable to lift the car.

RACK AND PINION

RACK AND PINION ARRANGEMENT DOES TWO THINGS

IT CONVERTS ROTATIONAL MOTION INTO THE LINEAR MOTION. IT PROVIDES A GEAR REDUCTION.

ADVANTAGES
1.It requires simple maintenance cares. 2.The moving parts of this system are cooled by the oil itself used. Thus this project does not require any cooling arrangements. 3.The loaded light vehicles can be easily. 4.Checking and cleaning are easy, because of the main parts are screwed. 5.Handling is easy. 6.Manual power not required.

7.Repairing is easy.
8.Replacement of parts is easy. 9.Maximum height up to 1.5 feet can be reached. 10.No Oil wastage.

DISADVANTAGES
Initial cost is high. High maintenance cost.

APPLICATIONS
1.It is very much useful for Car Owners & Auto-garages. This automatic electrohydraulic jack is used for lifting the vehicles.
2 .Thus it can be useful for the following types of vehicles; a) MARUTI, b) AMBASSADOR, c) FIAT, d) MAHINDRA, e) TATA

3.It is also use in to raise up the bed of patient in hospitals.
